This mid-range Macan EV model offers almost everything the range-topping Turbo does for nearly $20k less
by Dimitar Angelov on July 31, 2024, 12:00The Porsche Macan finally emerges as an EV for the 2025 model year. The German brand, mostly associated with high-performance sports cars, has been firmly in the SUV game since 2002. The original Cayenne turned out to be the company’s saving grace and it was only a matter of time before a smaller version of the popular 4X4 model arrived. The Macan has been the entry-level Porsche SUV since 2014, and after 10 years and two mid-cycle refreshes, the second generation is here. The new, 2025 Porsche Macan doesn’t just mean a new generation for the SUV.
It also marks the appearance of the brand’s first all-electric SUV model. Just because Porsche has embraced electrification doesn’t mean the end of the internal combustion Macan. Similar to the Cayenne, the Porsche Macan will continue to be available with a variety of inline-four and V-6 engines for years to come. Like other Porsche models, the EV Macan comes in a variety of flavors, and it seems the 4S might just be the sweet spot in the lineup.
Highlights of the 2025 Porsche Macan 4S EV
The Porsche Macan is one of the more uniquely named Porsche models. Macan means tiger in Malaysian and is also the Serbo-Croatian word for tomcat. Even in EV form, the 2025 Porsche Macan is one of the lighter electric SUVs on the market, despite nearing the curb weight figure of the heavyweight Porsche Panamera Turbo hybrid.
While the mid-size SUV will never touch the Porsche 911, especially with its new, T-Hybrid powertrain, it is one of the more athletic models in the segment. The Macan 4S EV also comes with Porsche’s active suspension management (PASM) as standard. An ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.25 also allows the heavy Macan 4S to make the most of its 100-kWh battery and drive up to 376 miles on a single charge. The Macan 4S’ 800-Volt architecture allows it to charge the battery at up to 270 kW, which gets 80 percent charge in 21 minutes. Macan Electric also proudly scores Porsche’s latest iteration of the four-point LED headlight design, which will also be featured in upcoming the all-electric Porsche 718. Inside, much of the standard equipment is the same as the Turbo model, barring the standard Bose audio and the lack of Turbonite badges.

The Macan 4S Packs All-wheel drive and 911-like acceleration
The Porsche Macan Electric 4S rides on the all-new, Premium Platform Electric platform. The EV Macan 4S also packs an all-new electric motor on the rear axle that features a 600-amp SiC pulse inverter to recuperate energy. On the front axle, the Macan 4S shares the same electric motor with the lesser Macan 4 and the more powerful Macan Turbo. Porsche hasn’t bothered with different battery sizes for the Macan Electric, so all trims, including the 4S, come with a 100-kWh battery pack - the second-biggest after the 2025 Porsche Taycan’s 105-kWh battery pack. Granted, the range-topping Porsche Macan Turbo Electric does the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.1 seconds, but the Macan 4S EV’s time for the same discipline is within a second of that time.
