With four models to choose from and a new Off-Road Package, here's what you need to know about the Macan EV
by Amrit Balraj on July 17, 2024, 06:00Porsche is adding two more variants of the Macan EV to its line-up. Joining the Macan 4 and the Turbo announced back in January 2024, are the base RWD Macan and the 4S, which will fit between the Macan 4 and the top-of-the-line Turbo variant. The entry-level RWD version is powered by a single motor borrowed from its dual-motor siblings mounted over the rear axle. The base version also uses the same capacity battery as the rest of the line-up, a 100 kWh battery of which 95 kWh is usable. This single-motor set produces 335 horsepower and 415 foot-pounds of torque. You can boost the output to 355 briefly using launch control. The base Macan has a top speed of 137 MPH and a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds. The base Macan is lighter by 242 pounds thanks to only having one motor, this also translates to a WLTP range of up to 398 miles.
The 4S gets a new rear motor and the same front axle motors from the Turbo and the Macan 4, one for each axle sending power to all 4 wheels. However, this setup is modulated to produce 442 horsepower, which can briefly hit 509 HP when boosted with launch control. The maximum torque which it can achieve is 578 pound-feet. According to official figures, the 4S can achieve a top speed of 149 MPH and sprint from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The 4S has a combined WLTP range of up to 376 miles and also features Porsche’s Traction Management System (e-PTM), which is five times more effective at distributing power between the axles than conventional AWD systems.
- The Macan RWD is the entry-level Macan and starts at $75,300
- The 4S sits in between the Macan 4 and Turbo and is the second most powerful in the line-up at 442 HP
- Porsche now offers an off-road package for every Macan variant
The Macan EV Is Loaded To The Gills With The Latest Driving Innovations
Both the RWD and 4S variants of the Macan EV come with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM) system for dynamic dampening during driving. Additionally, buyers can also opt-in rear-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability. Both models’ high voltage batteries can be fast charged from 10-80% in around 21 minutes, thanks to their 800-volt architecture of Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) which allows for 270 kW DC charging capacity. Porsche also came out with an attractive Slate Grey Neo exterior shade for all the variants, and a 20-inch Macan S wheel design is also an option now.
In the interior, Porsche offers the ’Driver Experience’ which means you get a groovy 12.6-inch curved display instrument cluster, an AR HUD, ambient light strip, and passengers also get a 10.9-inch screen. Another cool interior feature is the theme app which allows for further customization with 12 colors to select from to add to the display backgrounds or ambient lights.
