The pop-sensation is partners with Porsche for a thrilling new ad-campaign for the all-electric Macan SUV
by Khris Bharath on July 25, 2024, 10:30Move over, J.Lo, and your questionable car dance routines. Dua Lipa just dropped a gear and slammed the brakes on boring celebrity car endorsements. The global pop sensation was featured in Porsche’s latest ad campaign for the all-electric Macan, and it appears like it’s not your typical snoozefest of luxury car commercials.
Dua Lipa’s Take On The All-Electric Macan
Look, Lipa’s already got a garage full of enough outlanding exotic cars to make your retinas weep. But apparently, she’s got a soft spot for the German brand too. Back in late 2023, she hopped on the Porsche bandwagon and spent some quality time at the Porsche Experience Center in L.A. We’re talking wheel time behind the blisteringly quick Taycan Turbo and the legendary 911 Turbo S. Lipa even got her hands on a classic 911 Carrera and even a vintage 962 race car.
Now, that newfound love for the brand is translating into some creative control. Lipa helped co-write and direct this ad film for the new Macan electric SUV, which Porsche hopes will rewrite the EV rulebook. The top-spec Macan itself sounds like a beast – 640 horsepower (that’s 911 Turbo S territory, folks) wrapped in a (supposedly) practical SUV package. Plus, a 381-mile driving range and fast-charging capabilities make it a potentially compelling option for eco-conscious speed demons.
Partnering with the director behind Pharrell’s infectiously happy "Happy" video, Lipa is aiming to craft a concept that blends her own style with Porsche’s heritage. The commercial, which is just over two minutes long shows Dua push the new Macan through a variety of environments, from urban jaunts to the racetrack. The most unusual bit was landing on the moon and a sequence of what appears to be something straight out of a classic Hollywood western with horses running in the backdrop. Only, swap the cowboys for elephants, because why not?
As for the ad itself, while Lipa’s pop star cred and the director’s eye for infectious visuals are striking, it is far from those print ads that Porsche ran back in the day. Remember those witty, borderline controversial print ads that inspired a generation of Porschephliles. But regardless, this is a step in the right direction. Since these days, SUVs are the IN thing, perhaps, this collab might help recapture some of that bold, offbeat energy and get a new generation excited about the future of electric mobility and maybe a little bit of danger that you got with those adventurous air-cooled 911s.
