2025 Porsche Macan Electric: Overview, Specifications and Price

With Porsche's popular model embracing electrification, here's a comprehensive look at the Macan EV lineup for 2025

by Amreetam Basu on December 11, 2024, 08:00

As a best-selling Porsche model in the United States, the Macan nameplate needs no introduction. In the decade that it has been around, the Macan has won a lot of praise for being one of the most dynamically capable models, in the luxury compact SUV class. For 2024 though, the Macan receives a total reboot as it goes fully electric! If you’re still not ready to embrace electrification, Porsche will thankfully continue to offer the gas-powered model until 2026. The old four-cylinder/V6-equipped Macans are great for many reasons. First, they are affordable. Secondly, they are more practical than the similarly priced 718 Cayman, thanks to the crossover boy style and third, they drive like a Porsche.

However, the gas-powered Macan has been around since 2014 and, although it has gone through many updates, it’s not on par with the other Porsches currently on sale, like the facelifted Cayenne and the new-gen Panamera. So, to bring the Macan more in line with Porsche’s latest design philosophy, the German automaker debuted the Macan Electric, right when a significant upgrade was required for the gas model anyway. While the Macan Electric hits the market at a time when EV sales have started to cool off, is it worth your attention? From everything that’s new, the specifications and features across various trims, and crucially driving range, here’s a detailed overview of the 2025 Porsche Macan Electric.

What’s New

Porsche released the all-wheel-drive Macan 4 and the super speedy Macan Turbo models first, back in early 2024. But then came two more models a few months later: the rear-wheel-drive standard model and the upper mid-spec 4S Electric. So, Porsche added a rear-wheel-drive Macan for those who want to save some cash and get better range and the Macan 4S which hits the sweet spot for performance and price (under $100k!). Basically, Porsche wants to make sure there’s an electric Macan for everyone. If you’re used to the Taycan, their electric sedan, the Macan’s trim levels will look familiar.

Unlike the gas-powered Macan, the Macan Electric doesn’t feature all-wheel-drive across all trims. The base Macan Electric is a 335-horsepower model and features only one e-motor in the rear axle. The rest of the trim levels feature dual motors, one in each axle. The Macan 4 is rated at 402 horsepower, while the Macan 4S cranks it up to 509 horsepower. But, the range-topping Macan Turbo Electric is another beast on its own. It uses a more potent rear motor and puts down a total of 630 horsepower and 833 pound-feet of torque when you engage the launch control or the push-to-pass function.

In terms of acceleration, you can check the table below to see how the entry-level Macan Electric trims perform. But I want to point out how quick the Macan Turbo Electric is: 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds, according to Porsche, the same time taken by the 650-horsepower Cayenne Turbo GT. The top speed is rated at 161 mph, which makes it 24 mph faster than the base Macan RWD and the Macan 4. It’s not the best, but we all know mainstream EVs aren’t meant to do super high speeds.

The Macan Electric was the first Porsche to underpin the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture, which Porsche and Audi jointly developed. It holds a massive 100 kWh (95 kWh usable) battery pack under its floor, which supports up to 270 kW of DC fast charging. If you’re lucky enough to find a charger that supports those charging speeds, it will only take about 21 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent. If you want to charge your Macan at home, an 11 kW AC charger could take about eight hours to fully replenish the battery pack.

Personally, I’d pick the base Macan RWD over any trim level because 335 horsepower sounds about right for me, and it should be able to manage 320+ miles of range easily, with maximized city usage. But, if you’re living in areas where there are frequent rains or snows heavily in the winter, the Macan 4 or the Macan 4S should be ideal for you. The Macan Turbo Electric is ridiculous and could scare you if you aren’t habituated with that much torque. With an E.P.A. estimated range of 288 miles, the Macan Turbo Electric isn’t as bad as you’d expect for a 630-horsepower EV.

Exterior Highlights

The exterior styling of the new Macan Electric is a major departure from the Macan ICE. Not because it features a coupe-like roofline, but also because the front end gets a similar look as the Taycan. Compared to the gas-powered Macans, the Macan Electric has increased in size, measuring 188.4 inches with a 113.9-inch long wheelbase.

Coming back to the design, the Macan Electric rides on 20-inch wheels as standard, which is great, and you can opt for up to 22 inches if you don’t worry about the decrease in driving range and comfort. Both the front and rear lights are full LED, not the Matrix ones like you see with the Cayenne. But yes, you can spec them for $1,220. A giant panoramic sunroof comes as standard, without roof rails: that will cost you another $410. You can even opt for the Offroad Design Package for $1,570, should you choose to give your Macan EV an off-road touch. The package adds lower inlay in the front fascia, roof rails, side blades, side skirt inlays, and rear diffuser inlays.

The Macan Electric is one of the most aerodynamic SUVs in the world with a drag coefficient of 0.25, which is even better than the Cayenne’s 0.36 Cd. I feel that the Macan Electric looks great. Not that the soon-outgoing gas Macan looks awful. It’s just how Porsche is revolutionizing its design philosophy. It started with the Taycan, then the Cayenne and the Panamera, and now the Macan. From a consumer’s point of view, it’s easier to recognize Porsche vehicles on the road that aren’t 911s.

Interior Highlights

left right

Now, let’s talk about the interior of the electric Macan! Porsche took inspiration from the Taycan, the facelifted Cayenne, and the Panamera and embedded the layout and tech into it. You’re looking at up to three screens in this thing! There’s a sleek, curved 12.6-inch display for the driver, a 10.9-inch touchscreen in the center console, and guess what? You can even get another 10.9-inch screen just for the front passenger for an additional $1,570! They can stream videos, control the navigation, and more, while you focus on the road ahead (you can’t see a thing from the driver’s seat)

As standard, the seats are leather-covered and feature heating functions at the front. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is also heated as standard. The front seats are lower than before, which should give you that "in the car" feeling. Even the backseat passengers get a slightly lower seating position but don’t worry, they also get more legroom! You can head to the configurator and even choose more expensive leather options and finishes, so that’s a nice touch.

Oh, and there’s this cool LED light strip that runs along the dashboard and doors. It’s not just for looks, though – it can give you visual cues about things like charging or driver-assistance systems. Pretty neat, huh? Now, for the practical stuff. You get 18 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which is a smidge more than the gas-powered Macan. But that’s not all: the frunk allows for an extra 2.9 cubic feet of space. And if you fold down the back seats, you’ve got a whopping 46.5 cubic feet to work with!

So, in my opinion, the cabin experience of the Macan Electric should be way better than the gas Macan, especially because the latter is known to have more hard plastics and cheap-feeling buttons. From the driver’s seat, you might even feel like you’re driving the flagship Cayenne SUV.

2025 Porsche Macan Electric Price

The 2025 Porsche Macan Electric isn’t cheap starts at $75,300 with the base rear-drive model and goes all the way to a whopping $105,300 with the range-topping Macan Turbo Electric. Of course, these prices exclude the $1,995 destination charges and zero options. Porsche’s configurator is very addictive and if you don’t have control over your emotions, you could overspend. 2025 Porsche Macan Electric Vs. Competition

2025 Audi Q6 e-tron

The Q6 e-tron is Audi’s version of the Macan Electric, and shares most of the components including the battery pack and the e-motors with the Porsche. However, the rear motor of the Macan Turbo Electric isn’t shared with Audi, so the most you can get is the 510-horsepower SQ6 e-tron, which mirrors the performance of the Macan 4S Electric. The Q6 e-tron starts at $63,800, making it $11,500 cheaper than the base Macan Electric. For the money, you’re getting Audi luxury, 322 horsepower (12 less than the base Macan EV), 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds, and a whopping 321 miles EPA-estimated driving range. Technically, you’d get better value with the Q6 e-tron than the base Macan.

2025 Tesla Model Y

2025 Porsche Macan Electric: Overview, Specifications and Price storyboard - image 198710

The Model Y is the unbeatable champion in the luxury compact e-SUV market and needs no introduction. That’s because of the value it offers. I’m talking $31,490 for the Long Range rear-wheel drive variant, which offers an outstanding 337 miles of range, a top speed of 135 mph, and 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Yes, you could guess the horsepower range to be around 250-280, cause Tesla doesn’t offer the numbers anyway. But get this: the top-spec Model Y Performance with dual motors can do 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and tops out at 155 mph. That’s four-tenths of a second slower than the $105,000 Macan Turbo Electric while being priced at $37,990. Shocking, isn’t it?
