Representing The Best Of Both Worlds: The Goldilocks Of The 2025 Porsche Taycan Lineup

The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo is a 590-horsepower family hauler that hits the sweet-spot sitting between the boring base model and the ultrafast Turbo models

Given how crossovers and SUVs are all the rage these days, it is no surprise that only a handful of wagons on sale in 2024. This is strange because most wagons are more practical than sedans and pack better driving dynamics than SUVs. In the EV world, Porsche’s Taycan Cross Turismo is a great alternative to some of the gas-powered or hybrid wagons like the Audi RS6 Avant and the newly debuted BMW M5 Touring.

Now, the Taycan is known for being a proper driver’s car, a far cry from the autopilot-obsessed Teslas of the world. If you’re looking for an EV that can carve corners and put a smile on your face, the Taycan is the way to go (assuming your bank account can handle it, of course). What about the wagon version? The Taycan Cross Turismo comes in four flavors: the standard 4, the slightly spicier 4S, and the range-topping Turbo and Turbo S.

But today, we’re focusing on the Goldilocks of the bunch, the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. With a price tag of $127,195, it sits in the same ballpark as a base 911 Carrera. So, is admission worth the price? Let’s discover why this electric wagon might just be the perfect blend of performance, practicality, Porsche pedigree, and value.

Performance Meets Practicality: The 2025 Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo’s All-Around Appeal

Being the second base model in the Taycan wagon lineup, the 4S offers the ideal performance package. I’d argue that it’s even better than the Turbo models. Hear me out: in the real world, you don’t need those 871 horses of the Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo, especially when considering a wagon for all-purpose use. So, by choosing the Taycan 4S, a second-base model, you’ll be more than happy running errands and getting up to speed on the highway.

The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo gets a dual-motor powertrain, pushing out 590 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. Compared to the base 4 Cross Turismo, the 4S produces 161 horsepower and 74 pound-feet more. While the power bump over the base is great, you’re not really paying that much more over the base and from the table below, you can see that the extra performance doesn’t come at the expense of range. Here’s how the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo compares to the more powerful Turbo. With boost mode activated, the 2025 Taycan 4S Cross Turismo can hit 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, three-thirds of a second quicker than the new 992.2 911 Carrera. It can even reach up to 149 mph with summer tires.

While the Taycan was never a slow car, to begin with from the very beginning, efficiency was a big concern. I say was because the facelifted Taycan brings massive improvements in this department. The two-speed gearbox in the rear axle stays and is in itself a great innovation to provide rapid acceleration and even better efficiency by slowing down the rotational speed of the e-motor.

All Taycan Cross Turismo models feature the larger 105 kWh battery pack by default, which Porsche calls Performance Battery Plus. In the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo guise, the battery pack is expected to provide juice for about 272 miles on a single charge. This is not quite the 300-mile range target you’d expect, but it is way better than the 235 miles that you got with the outgoing Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. With a maximum of 320 watts of DC fast charging, a battery of this size should only take about 18 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent.

Family-Friendly and Fun: The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo’s Practical Side

Inside, the Taycan hasn’t received any big changes—not that it needed them to begin with. Its futuristic cabin offers a glimpse into Porsche’s future, particularly with the curved, fully digital instrument console and the optional 10.9-inch touchscreen passenger-side infotainment display. These features have now found their way into the updated Cayenne, the new Panamera, the new Macan Electric, and even the 911 (though in the 911’s case, it’s just the digital driver’s display).

The Cross Turismo offers a similar interior experience to the Taycan sedan. Everything you touch should feel delightfully posh and soft. The leather-upholstered seats offer eight-way adjustability and come standard with heating for those in the front. Like its sedan sibling, the rear features two seats separated by a fixed center console. However, if you need to squeeze in an extra passenger, Porsche will gladly install a third seat in the center for $480. Just be warned, it’s a bit narrow, so it’s best suited for smaller folk, like children.

But let’s be honest, the main reason you’d opt for the Taycan Cross Turismo over the sedan is that wagon body. That raised roofline gives you a smidge more headroom upfront than the sedan, but the real difference is in the back. The Cross Turismo boasts a whopping 3.62 inches of extra rear headroom, meaning even taller people won’t complain about it on long journeys. It’s an EV, so the floor is a bit higher than you might be used to. But hey, at least you can deal with that slightly awkward thigh support without needing a chiropractor afterward.

And let’s not forget the extra cargo space. The Cross Turismo’s boot offers 1.4 cubic feet more than the sedan, bringing the total to a respectable 15.8 cubic feet. Plus, being an EV, you get that handy frunk with an extra three cubic feet of space for your charging cables and picnic baskets. At the end of regardless of which Taycan you choose, it is a luxury performance car and comes packed to the brim with a long list of standard features and the 4S Cross Turismo is no exception. To sum it up, be it performance, space, driving range, or price, the 4S Cross Turismo in my opinion ticks all the right boxes and is the do-it-all all Taycan.
