Now the outgoing Macan was consistently one of the top-selling models for Porsche and I’m sure they would like to maintain that, position. Having said that, going in all on E.V. especially when there is a slowdown in the market and an increasing demand for hybrids may have come at the worst time for Porsche. Regardless, the German automaker continues to reinforce the all-electric Macan’s lineup with two new trims joining the lineup, bringing the total up to four. I wanted to explore the wheel designs available across all four trims and what is the most expensive option available and after spending some time on the online configurator, here’s what I found.

Across all trims, wheel sizes range between 20 and 22 inches across 10 different styles. The most expensive option available is the 22-inch Exclusive Design Wheels with Aeroblades in Carbon Fiber, setting you back $8,650. As the name suggests, these aerodynamically optimized forged alloy wheels are milled and feature carbon-fiber aero blades along with highly polished surfaces and a gloss black paint finish.

They come wrapped in all-season tires with 255/40 R22 section tires up front and 295/35 R22 in the rear. These wheels are significantly more expensive compared to other designs costing nearly twice as much, but anything with carbon is bound to be more expensive, and considering this is an E.V. that we’re talking about here, any weight saved would pay in terms of better range. While design is very subjective, I’ve been a fan of the way these aero-blade rims since I first saw them appear on the Taycan, but the carbon is overkill for me, especially on a crossover.

Wheels do so much more than spruce up your ride. Based on the material and size, can have a significant impact on the ride and handling of the vehicle. In the case of the Macan EV, the wheel you choose can also impact the available driving range, which is an important point to consider when purchasing an electric vehicle. These carbon fiber wheels may cost a pretty penny but are stronger, lighter, and more aerodynamic than the other offerings. Expect to save between 10 to 15 pounds in weight, per corner, and that adds up to between 40 to 60 pounds total, which is significant resulting in lesser unsprung mass.

In the end, Mainstream models like the Macan, Cayenne, and Panamera are more important, even to a sportscar maker like Porsche. It is these models that help Porsche fund the development and evolution of its gas-powered performance cars like the Boxster and the 911. To really drive the point home, Porsche has sold over a million units of the Macan, since it first debuted. Fast forward a decade and joining the Taycan facelift, the Macan electric compact SUV will soon hit dealerships, with a starting MSRP of $75,300 and the top-spec Turbo variant costing $105,300.
