Porsche Says No To Gimmicks: The German Automaker Isn't Interested In A Simulated Manual For Its EVs

While the prospects of a fake manual transmission making it to a future all-electric Porsche look bleak, there may still be some hope left for the stick?

Things are always dynamic in the automotive industry and even carmakers like Porsche, hellbent on staying true to tradition, have to resort to unconventional methods to keep some of its most iconic models around. Porsche hasn’t given up on the internal combustion engine and it will continue to give us potent internal combustion powerplants, at least, until 2030. With electrification being the main agenda of many legacy automakers (and more than a few young companies), some of them are trying to make EVs more fun by incorporating traits from combustion-powered vehicles, such as manual shifting.

Remember the Camel Trophy? That epic off-road endurance race that pushed man and machine to their limits? Often dubbed the Olympics of 4x4s, it was a competition that was held annually between 1980 and 2000. From the impenetrable jungles of the Amazon and Sumatra to the frozen extremes of Siberia, the Camel Trophy ran through, some of the most hostile and untraversable areas on the planet. Sure, you may be used to seeing old-school Land Rover Defenders and Discoverys covered in mud from back in the day. Now the outgoing Macan was consistently one of the top-selling models for Porsche and I’m sure they would like to maintain that, position. Having said that, going in all on E.V. especially when there is a slowdown in the market and an increasing demand for hybrids may have come at the worst time for Porsche. I wanted to explore the wheel designs available across all four trims and what is the most expensive option available and after spending some time on the online configurator, here’s what I found.

Here's Why Porsche Doesn't Use Numbers To Name Its Four Door Models

There's more than one reason why Porsche's sports cars are the only ones to feature numbers in their names

Porsche is a sports car manufacturer first and foremost, but times have changed, and in order to stay in business, many high-end car companies need to adapt. Like other carmakers, Porsche eventually branched out into other segments, including four-door sedans. In fact, the automaker’s has been toying with the idea of a four-door model since the 1950s, but so far, Porsche has only two sedan models on offer, with a possible, third one on the way.

The Real Reason Why Porsche EVs Don't Offer One Pedal Driving
- image 183763

The Real Reason Why Porsche EVs Don't Offer One Pedal Driving

While Porsche's all-electric models offer blistering pace, find out why the German automaker left out this vital feature found in EVs

Many electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) offer one-pedal driving. However, Porsche does not offer this feature in its EVs. This feature essentially lets you control your acceleration and braking with just the accelerator pedal. Unlike gas-powered cars that coast without power when you lift your foot off the throttle, Electric cars and PHEVs can achieve one-pedal driving thanks to regenerative braking. This system utilizes the electric motor as a generator during braking. As the car slows down, the motor captures the kinetic energy (energy of motion) and converts it back into electricity, topping up the battery and extending your driving range.
