Here's how two of Volkswagen Group's popular electric sports sedans in base trims stack up against each other
by Amreetam Basu on September 3, 2024, 16:00Back in 2019, Porsche finally took a leap into the electric future with the Taycan, a sleek and powerful EV that proved sports sedans could be both thrilling and eco-conscious. Seeing an opportunity to carve its own path in the electric performance sedan market, sister-brand Audi followed suit with the e-tron GT, its second electric offering after the fat e-tron SUV, built on the same J1 platform developed by Porsche.
Fast forward to today, and both the Taycan and the e-tron GT have received some fresh updates for 2025. But while the Taycan offers a whole buffet of trim levels, the e-tron GT keeps things simple with just three options: S, RS, and RS performance. So, we’re pitting the base S model of the e-tron GT against the entry-level Taycan. Spoiler alert: the S e-tron GT packs more punch than its Porsche counterpart.
But horsepower isn’t everything, right? We’re talking about two of the most technologically advanced and luxurious electric sedans on the market today. So which one is the right fit for you? Let’s dive into the details and compare these two electrifying contenders.
Key differences: 2025 Porsche Taycan Vs. Audi e-tron GT
While the underpinnings are almost similar, both the base Taycan and the S e-tron GT are completely different animals. Although we don’t have the official pricing for the U.S. models, I anticipate that the S e-tron GT will be around $10,000 more expensive than the Taycan. We’ll come to the performance part later because it’s a no-brainer compared to the Taycan.
Still, the S e-tron GT offers better specs right from the onset, such as larger 20-inch alloy wheels, Audi’s signature LED Matrix with cool dancing animations, a tri-zone automatic climate control system, a fixed glass roof, and a wireless charging pad. Audi even introduced newly designed brakes that are bigger than the outgoing base e-tron GT units.
The Taycan, on the other hand, is unmistakably a Porsche, and the 2025 facelift makes it even more attractive. On the outside, it’s sleek and more aerodynamic than the S e-tron GT. As for the interior, the classic Porsche steering wheel and the sports seats will remind you of the German brand and its iconic 911 sports car.
However, unlike the e-tron GT, the Taycan packs more displays. If you’re a tech-nerd, that wouldn’t be a problem. Otherwise, the screen-heavy center console and the optional 10.9-inch passenger display could be engineering excess.

Performance: 2025 Porsche Taycan Vs. Audi e-tron GT
Both the Taycan and the e-tron GT benefit from lighter and more potent electric motors, which are part of the PPE platform developed by Porsche and Audi. However, the base S trim of the e-tron GT is a lot more potent than the base Taycan. The former’s dual-motor powertrain produces a whopping 669 horsepower, compared to the base Taycan’s 402 horsepower. However, please note that the base Taycan has one e-motor and only drives the rear wheels.
A two-speed gearbox serves its purpose in both the Audi and the Porsche. The S e-tron GT has more power and an additional e-motor in the front axle, so its acceleration is stronger, with an estimated 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. As for the battery sizes, the facelifted Taycan comes with a bigger 89 kWh unit as standard instead of the 105 kWh unit found in the facelifted e-tron GT. You can get a similarly sized large battery pack with the Taycan as well, for about $4,500, making it the most efficient among the two, with an estimated EPA range of 318 miles.
More power or better efficiency? The choice is yours.
