With the intent of soon bidding farewell to the internal combustion engine that once defined it, Porsche finally dragged its best-selling Macan into the electric age last year. But if things don’t go to plan, I have a feeling that the gas-powered variant which is set to be discontinued in 2026, may stick around. The recent shift in market dynamics, not favoring EVs much has warranted Porsche to realign its EV strategy with rumors of some models that were destined to be electric even to take the hybrid route, or even better an ICE retrofit. Meanwhile, Tesla’s super-popular and newly unveiled Model Y, now under the "Juniper" moniker, is all set to continue to assert its dominance in the electric crossover market, already racking up 50,000 orders within the very first day.

With 1,019 horsepower, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT is the most powerful road-legal Porsche ever. The Turbo GT trim packs a bunch of performance upgrades to make it more agile than the rest of the Taycan line-up. The competition in the shape of the 2024 Model S Plaid continues to hold its position as one of the quickest-production EVs in the world. While the Cyber Truck is grabbing all of the headlines currently, the Model S continues to be a comfortable and luxurious choice with the bonus of its supercar-like acceleration. Both of these EVs represent the pinnacle of EV technology offered by these respective brands, but the question remains, which one is faster in a straight line?

Tesla pioneered the mainstream EV segment and currently offers some of the quickest fully electric vehicles you can buy. However, legacy carmakers like Mercedes and Porsche have caught up, and now EVs are being churned out left and right. Porsche is big on heritage, but that didn’t spare the brand from getting on the EV bandwagon. On the plus side, Porsche’s Taycan is one of the most popular EV performance cars. Since its introduction in 2020, Porsche has sold over 136,000 units of the all-electric Taycan, and counting, making it one of the more popular high-performance EVs. That said, when it comes to the performance-per-dollar ratio, Tesla’s offerings are still unrivaled, but Porsche might be working on a solution.
