The combination of a bigger battery pack than before along and a potent V6, means the entry-level plug-in hybrid Panamera doesn't sacrifice efficiency in the name of performance
by Amreetam Basu on October 11, 2024, 06:00The Porsche Panamera has always been a bit of a unicorn in the luxury sedan world. It’s a proper driver’s car that just happens to have four doors. And when it comes to engines, the Panamera offers something for everyone. Fancy a smooth V6? They’ve got it. Craving a rumbling V8? Step right up. But if you’re looking to save some fuel without sacrificing performance, the E-Hybrid models are where it’s at. And if you really want to blow your socks off, there’s the Turbo S E-Hybrid with a whopping 771 horsepower.
But today, we’re focusing on the more sensible (but still plenty exciting) Panamera 4 E-Hybrid. Hybrid Panameras have been around since 2011, but these days, with everyone talking about efficiency and emissions, there are more hybrid options than ever. The 2025 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid kicks off the hybrid range with a price tag of $117,495. Okay, so it’s not cheap, but it is the most fuel-efficient Panamera you can buy. Intrigued? Here’s why I think the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid might just be the pick of the litter if ultimate efficiency is what you really want.
The 2025 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid packs all the power you need
Since the base Panamera is a rear-drive affair, you can only get the hybrid models with the all-wheel drive system. So, the base plug-in hybrid Panamera is based on the Panamera 4 trim. It’s basically the same car as the base model but with an all-wheel drive and a high-performance hybrid system.
So, under the hood lies a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, making 300 horsepower (48 less than the base Panamera) and 309 pound-feet of torque (22 less than the outgoing Panamera 4 E-Hybrid). Additionally, there’s an electric motor sitting between the V6 and the eight-speed PDK gearbox. This e-motor pushes out another 187 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque to the mix. Together, the hybrid system cranks out 463 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
Now these aren’t mind-boggling numbers, but they should be more than adequate for everyday drives around town and even short stints out on the highway. Porsche estimates the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid to hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, which is on par with the base 992.1 911 Carrera. As for top speed, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid can go as fast as 174 mph on summer tires, and with electric propulsion alone, it can reach 87 mph.

2025 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid: Powerful Yet Fuel-Efficient
A 25.9 kWh battery pack placed under the cargo floor provides juice to the e-motor inside the PDK. This battery pack is 45 percent bigger in capacity than the outgoing Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, but thanks to improved cell chemistry, it doesn’t weigh more than before. You can top up the battery in just over 2.5 hours. All this translates to a better all-electric range, which Porsche quotes as being around 56 miles in the more forgiving European WLTP cycles. We expect the number to drop down to between 30 and 40 miles when tested by the EPA. To give you some context, the EPA rated the outgoing Panamera 4 E-Hybrid at 19 miles per charge in pure EV mode.
While the official MPGe figures aren’t available yet, we expect the new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid to deliver better mileage in hybrid mode than the outgoing generation model, with the EPA giving it a rating of a staggering 52 MPGe combined translating to 480 miles of driving range, more than double the numbers returned by the previous Panamera 4. So, with a detuned gas engine and a bigger battery pack, the combined MPGe for the base 2025 Panamera 4 E-Hybrid is expected to be around 58 MPGe. We’ll update the article once we have the official EPA figures for the 2025 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid.
2025 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid | 2023 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid | |
---|---|---|
Combined MPGe | 58 MPGe (Combined) | 52 MPGe |
Gas tank capacity | 21.1 gallons | 21.1 gallons |
Battery capacity | 25.9 kWh | 17.9 kWh |
