We reveal the one essential option that makes the base model, the new range and value king in the Taycan lineup for 2025
by Amreetam Basu on August 20, 2024, 18:30Not everyone is a die-hard E.V. enthusiast, like myself, and I have to admit the Porsche Taycan is very convincing. It looks unmistakably like a Porsche, and more importantly, it drives like one, too. But it’s not like it got off to a bad start. The Taycan, a practical four-door sedan that offers excellent luxury and driving experience, had its limitations when it came to the driving range.
Range anxiety is real, and the EPA ensured you had much of it with its estimated range for the Taycan. With about 220 miles, give or take a few, the Taycan’s driving range seemed unpromising initially, but with countless software updates and improved efficiency, it did better. Independent tests have witnessed close to 300 miles of range, which is surprising.
However, for the 2025 model year, the Taycan is reborn... eh, sort of. With the facelift, it certainly looks a lot sharper, thanks to the updated headlights, but the significant changes lie underneath the skin. Both the standard and the long-range battery packs are larger than before. No, don’t get me wrong. Rather than an increase in size, the new battery packs are more energy-dense compared to the outgoing model. This translates to a 20-35 percent range boost, a game-changer for the Taycan moniker.
So, if you’re eyeing the 2025 base Taycan and the trim that’s likely to fly off the shelves, you’re in the right place. We’ve configured a build that strikes the ideal balance between luxury, performance, and efficiency, albeit with a slightly higher price tag.
The base 2025 Porsche Taycan is feature-packed even without options
Like the 911 Carrera, the base Taycan isn’t devoid of core features and luxury. It even has enough oomph to get you moving, thanks to a rear-axle-mounted electric motor with a two-speed transmission. This electric motor can produce 402 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque. As mentioned before, the 2025 model year Taycan also gets a bump in battery capacity. The standard battery size is now up from 79.2 kWh to 89 kWh, and the optional long-range Performance battery size is now 105 kWh.
2025 Porsche Taycan (Base) | |
Powertrain | Single e-motor |
Horsepower | 402 |
Torque | 302 lb-ft |
Gearbox | Single-speed direct drive |
Drive Type | RWD |
0-60 | 4.5 seconds |
Top speed | 143 mph |
Curb weight | 4,630 pounds |
Battery size | 89 kWh (standard) |
Electric-only range | 274 miles (estimated) |
As for the laundry lists of standard features, I’ve listed all of them below:
-
Matrix LED headlights
-
19-inch alloy wheels
-
Adaptive air suspension
-
DC charging up to 270 kW
-
Dual-zone automatic climate control
-
Faux leather upholstery
-
Heated steering wheel
-
16.8-inch curved driver’s display
-
10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display
-
8.4-inch secondary touchscreen display
-
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
-
Navigation system
-
Eight-way power-adjustable front seats with heating
-
Memory functions for the driver’s seat
-
Heated steering wheel
-
10-speaker audio system
-
Wireless charging pad
-
Ambient lighting
-
Lane change assist
As you can see, the base Taycan is already well-equipped for a sub-$100k ($99,400 MSRP) electric car. It screams luxury and doesn’t feel like a cheap car - it’s a Porsche, after all.
This could be the best Taycan configuration
The Taycan is considerably heavier than a four-door ICE sedan, like the Porsche Panamera. So, it’s important to refrain from slapping on any unnecessary optional extras. Any aesthetic embellishments like color, wheels, and interior trim are very subjective. So I’ve left those out as well, letting you choose between two standard colors, black or white. However, there is one option that I’d choose, the optional long-range battery pack.
The standard battery pack is now a sizeable 89 kWh, which is almost similar to the outgoing model’s long-range battery pack. However, as you know, with the 2025 facelift, Porsche offers an even more energy-dense 105 kWh battery pack. This upgrade will surely add about a couple hundred pounds to the overall weight of the Taycan, but you’re looking at a massive increase in range. When it comes to EPA-estimated range figures, here’s how the base model with the Performance Battery Plus (J9Q) costing you $5,780, stacks up against the rest of the lineup for the 2025 model year.
Trim | Battery | EPA Range Estimate (mi) |
---|---|---|
Taycan | Performance Battery | 274 |
Taycan | Performance Battery Plus | 318 |
Taycan 4S | Performance Battery | 252 |
Taycan 4S | Performance Battery Plus | 295 |
Taycan Turbo | Performance Battery Plus | 292 |
Taycan Turbo S | Performance Battery Plus | 266 |
Taycan Turbo GT | Performance Battery Plus | 276 |
Taycan Turbo GT w/Weissach | Performance Battery Plus | 269 |
Taycan 4 Cross Turismo | Performance Battery Plus | 277 |
Taycan 4S Cross Turismo | Performance Battery Plus | 272 |
Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo | Performance Battery Plus | 265 |
Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo | Performance Battery Plus | 261 |
With an EPA estimated range of 318 miles, the Performance Battery Plus, is a no-brainer upgrade. However, this upgrade is only needed if freeways are your best friends. The standard 89 kWh battery pack should be enough for most city usage. For a total of $107,175, including the long-range battery and the $1,995 destination charges, you’re getting a pretty packed-up Taycan ready to run errands during the weekdays and cross-state hyper-mile-ing on the weekends.
In case you still want to spice up your base 2025 Taycan with some fancy options (listed below), here’s a link to the configurator to show you how I’d personally spec-the base trim.
