A Porsche 928 Targa was showcased at the 1979 Frankfurt Motor Show

It happened just 2 years after Porsche unveiled the 928 coupe

Like all early 928s, the Targa was powered by a 4.5-liter V-8 with 240 hp (219 hp for the U.S. variant)

The fixed roof was swapped for a T-top with two removable panels

The interior was largely unchanged, except for switchgear on the T-top's driver side

The 928 Targa conversion also sacrificed the car's signature hatchback rear end

The 928 Targa conversion cost 35,000 DEM back in 1979

Not many people wanted to sacrifice a perfectly good Porsche 928 for the conversion
