TFL Classics on YouTube is a channel dedicated to hands-on experiences with vintage and classic automobiles, offering viewers a glimpse of what it’s like to live with and daily-drive these old classics. Recently, they acquired a 109-year-old Ford Model T from 1915 in nearly stock condition. In a previous video, they drove it through a drive-in restaurant and to a closeby Walmart. This time, they decided it was time for a tune-up and opted to take their retro gem to an official Ford dealership, to see if they could work on a vintage Model T. They planned to drive it themselves through country back roads and on the highway. Here’s what happened.

The Ford Model-T topped out at around 30 miles per hour, which they wisely decided would make the trip necessarily unsafe. They eventually pulled over and loaded their car onto their trailer truck for the rest of the journey. They had already called ahead to inquire whether the service technicians at the Ford service center would be open to working on the Model T, given that it’s not every day you get to handle a genuine piece of automotive history. Fortunately, the friendly folks at Ford were happy to take a look.

Once they pulled into the service center, they were joined by veteran Ford technician Ray who was fascinated by the Model T and unsurprisingly had some questions about the car. He even got to start and take the Model T around for a little spin around the facility, much to his delight. He even joked that the Model T starts up better than most modern cars he works on.

Initially, they encountered several challenges, including the Model T’s primitive brass radiator, which frequently overheated and leaked, making it difficult to drive for extended periods. This issue was resolved by installing a new water pump, an aftermarket addition not available when the Model T was first released. Also, thanks to Ray’s expertise, they were able to flush out the oil, which is shared by the engine and transmission of the Model T, and pump in new oil that now makes it run much smoother. In the end, there was no need to resort to looking up the Ford Model T’s service manual. The lads were back on the road before long and already making plans for some more outrageous videos with the Model T in the future.
