With just 31 miles on the clock, and some extremely desirable options this 718 Spyder RS is a collector car in the making
by Khris Bharath on September 27, 2024, 09:00The weather may not be cooperating at Porsche West Palm Beach, but that doesn’t dampen the excitement surrounding a very special arrival: they say pre-owned but this is a practically brand new Porsche 718 Spyder RS and it comes with the much desired optional Weissach Package. Now this is far from your average Porsche convertible because what you’re looking at folks is the most powerful open-top mid-engine Porsche.
Without a doubt, the first thing that grabs your attention is the stunning Viola Purple Metallic (W85) paint job, which is a paint-to-sample option, meaning the likelihood of you finding another one on the road, is pretty low. F.Y.I., this is a $14,750 option in the Porsche configurator. Paired with the lightweight aluminum wheels finished in Satin Neodyme ($600), acts as a nice contrast to the purple paint.
Since this particular 718 Spyder RS features the coveted Weissach package ($12,570), it benefits from a wealth of lightweight carbon fiber components. The full carbon fiber hood. Bucket seats, trim pieces, and even the roll hoops are made out of this exotic material, shaving weight and adding a touch of Porsche Motorsport pedigree.

Under the hood, or should I say, behind the seats, sits that 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine derived from the 911 GT3. It puts out 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, revving to a hair-raising 9,000 RPM redline. While downforce isn’t the Spyder RS’s top priority compared to its closed-top Cayman GT4S sibling, Porsche hasn’t neglected aerodynamics entirely. The front splitter should keep the car planted, while the massive rear spoiler with a Gurney flap ensures stability at high speeds.

Now I’ll admit, the unique folding roof system is not the easiest to install if you’re in a hurry and will require a little practice, but without the ragtop, you can admire the iconic Speedster-style double bubble design that Porsche enthusiasts adore. Once you’re done boulevard cruising with the top down, you’ll be treated to the glorious sound of that high-revving engine right behind your ears, as you tear up a canyon road. With the Spyder RS, you also get the best power-to-weight ratio of any 718, currently on sale.
The 718 Spyder RS is as rare as Porsches get. Expect production numbers to be limited. This particular car, with only 31 miles on the odometer, is practically brand new. The PTS color and optional Weissach package make it even more desirable. With the Boxster EV around the corner, the Spyder RS represents the ultimate expression of the 718. As for price, the base MSRP for a Spyder RS currently sits at $164,200. I tried my best to recreate this exact spec in the configurator, and you’re looking at $200k+. But good luck getting an allocation, unless you can pull some strings. However, if you’re interested in this pristine example now, hit up Alexander de Pooter at Porsche West Palm Beach.
