992.2 Turbo Leaked In Porsche's Own Configurator

The next-gen Hybrid 911 Turbo reveal is still some time away, but here's an up close look at everything that's different on the upcoming model

Porsche has been churning out facelifted 911s this year faster than you can say “mid-life crisis.” This year, we’ve already seen the base 992.2 Carrera, the mental GTS, the stripped-down T, and even the track-focused GT3. But the real storm’s brewing on the horizon and the one that I’m most excited about is the Turbo lineup. Now, thanks to a leak on Porsche’s own configurator from its German site (talk about a spy’s paradise!), we’ve got a glimpse of the upcoming Turbo for the first time. It’s not much, just a rear-end shot from a video showcasing the cruise control system, but it is enough to get the rumor mill churning once again.

What the 992.2 Turbo leak reveals

This leak comes courtesy of arimunich_spotting on Instagram who found a graphic in the cruise control options for the 992.2 Carrera. While it is nothing more than a tiny graphic featured on the instrument panel, what is clear is that those boxy exhaust tips continue to scream "Turbo." The current models feature a similar setup, but opting for the sports exhaust package ($3,920) will get you oval units instead of the quad exhaust setup seen here. Other noteworthy changes include a revised rear bumper with reflectors sitting higher up and a diffuser that looks straight out of the 992.2 GT3’s playbook.

No surprise there, considering test mules have been rocking a similar setup for months at this point. The new Turbo is also expected to share updates seen in other recent 911 variants, including a fully digital instrument cluster, redesigned front bumpers with vertical active aero vents, a new radar sensor, and an upgraded PDCC system for certain models.

But the most significant change it seems is going to be under the hood (or shall we say, behind the seats?) as the upcoming 992.2 Turbo will be the first to feature a hybrid setup. This info comes straight from Porsche’s deputy chairman himself, Lutz Meschke. The upcoming Turbo which is due to hit production in late 2025, will pack a battery cell from Varta; the same folks supplying the juice for the 911 Carrera GTS’s new "T-Hybrid" system.

While Meschke kept the specifics under wraps, all signs point to a similar setup as the Carrera GTS. Think a 1.9kWh battery, an electric turbo to eliminate lag, and another electric motor nestled within the 8-speed PDK. The result in the GTS? A bump to 533 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque, without much of a weight penalty at just 110 pounds.

But here’s the thing, I’m still not sure how Porsche will electrify the upcoming Turbo range. The leaked images so far hint at three Turbo models. The standard, Turbo S, and a rumored Turbo S Touring. There are rumors of a possible manual transmission comeback as well, after the 997 generation. Now, the T-Hybrid system and a stick shift don’t exactly play nice together. So, my money’s on the manual Turbo being a pure gasoline holdout for the purists. Here’s my prediction for the drivetrains for the upcoming 992.2 Turbo range.

Model Transmission Drivetrain
992.2 Turbo Manual RWD
992.2 Turbo S Touring PDK RWD
992.2 Turbo S PDK Only AWD

As for the hybrid models, well, prepare for some serious power. The current 992.1 Turbo already throws down 572 horsepower, and the Turbo S pushes that to 641. Adding electrification to the mix is sure to send those numbers to the next level, along with performance. This is just the opening act, folks. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one. Stay tuned for more updates on the electrified (and potentially manual) future of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
