Find out how upgrading to these aero kits can significantly transform your ride's style and handling capabilities
by Dimitar Angelov on August 21, 2024, 07:00The Porsche 911 is one of the most thoroughly engineered cars. German engineers have been perfecting the formula of "putting the engine in the wrong place” for 60 years and counting, meaning each next 911 generation is measurably better than the last. That said, there are companies out there, including Porsche, which offer means of upgrading certain aspects of the rear-engine sports car. The 911 features an iconic shape, dating back to the 1964 original.
More modern iterations of the Porsche 911 feature adaptive aerodynamics, which can alter the car’s downforce and drag coefficient. The 992 Turbo S, for example, has a drag coefficient of 0.33 Cd in Eco mode and 0.38 Cd in its "max attack” setting. Sometimes, more downforce means more drag, which reduces top speed for the sake of cornering capabilities. However, there are aero kits available for the 911 that enhance the car’s capabilities beyond factory specifications. After taking into account the value-for-money factory, we found that these four kits are a good way to improve the aerodynamics of the Porsche 992.
Porsche 992 OEM Aero Kit
Sometimes, all you need is a big wing. Porsche knows this, which is why the 992 Carrera can be had with the company’s optional aero kit. It includes a couple of subtle, but very important changes that give even the base Carrera, GT3-like aesthetics, or at least something close to that. Sadly, the aero kit doesn’t do much in terms of weight reduction, but even so, the heaviest Porsche 911 still weighs less than most modern sports cars. Porsche’s aero kit for the 992 Carrera will set you back $6,910, but it is only available for the coupe models. It adds the following features:
-
Taller fixed rear wing
-
Rear Sports bumper with body-colored, L-shaped ground effects and relocated license plate holder
-
Front Sports bumper with three, distinctive air intakes, and body-colored chin spoiler
Porsche 992 DMC Rear Spoiler
If you just want your 992 Carrera to have a taller rear spoiler, DMC has the solution. The carbon-fiber spoiler by DMC is, aesthetically, very similar to what Porsche’s own aero kit provides. It is a straightforward kit, consisting of a fixed rear wing that gets you closer to the 911 GT3 aesthetics without being too aggressive. The rear spoiler is a plug-and-play for Carrera and Targa models but requires a bit of modification to fit on the 992 GTS. The price for the kit varies between $2,890 and $5,490, depending on what version of the aero kit you choose. There are four options available:
-
Carbon-fiber spoiler with no pattern
-
Carbon-fiber spoiler with visible carbon pattern
-
Lightweight, pre-preg carbon-fiber spoiler
-
Ultra-lightweight forged carbon-fiber spoiler
Porsche 992 Techart 2 Aero Kit
A more comprehensive aero kit for the Porsche 992 comes from renowned tuner, Techart. The company has a long tradition of working with the German sports car manufacturer from Zuffenhausen, and it offers a wide variety of kits for all the different 911 variants. The Aero Kit II by Techart manages to strike the perfect balance between enhanced, sporty looks and functionality. It is all about making the 992 Carrera as aggressive-looking as possible, without making a mess of it. While not cheap at €16,803 (approx. $18,470), you get a lot for the money. Techart’s 992 aero kit consists of eight parts, which are either forged carbon-fiber or carbon-coated.
-
Front chin spoiler
-
Front air-intake frames
-
Air-outlet grills
-
Rear diffuser
-
Rear-bumper aero wings
-
Fixed rear spoiler

Porsche 992 Dundon Motorsport Valkyrie Aero kit
Dundon Motorsport offers a wide variety of upgrades for the 911 platform. We recently compared Dundon’s aftermarket exhaust for the 992 GT3 versus the Akrapovic exhaust and found some interesting results. That said, Dundon also develops aero kits for the Porsche 992, and one of the US company’s latest offerings is meant to take the already-radical Porsche 911 GT3 and make it even more glued to the road.
Through thorough use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Dundon Motorsport has developed a carbon-fiber kit that further optimizes the 911 GT3’s aerodynamics for track use. The company is not shy about its numbers, boasting 885 pounds more downforce at 120 mph than the stock car and 1,500 pounds of downforce at 160 mph – almost 1,000 pounds more than the stock car’s most extreme setting. Dundon also points out that this is at medium settings, which means there is more ground to be gained. At $17,449, the Valkyrie aero kit does not come cheap, especially considering it only consists of three elements. However, performance gains on track will be impressive, given the numbers.
-
Swan neck carbon-fiber rear wing
-
Dual carbon-fiber dive planes
-
Carbon-fiber splitter
