The Gunther Werks Speedster is a rolling piece of art, a loving homage to the 1995 993 Speedster. The 993 generation Speedster is undoubtedly one of the rarest cars from the German brand ever. It is so rare that very few people are even aware of its existence. The company only made 1 prototype, which was given as a gift to Ferdinand Alexander ’Butzi’ Porsche on his 60th birthday. A couple of years later a dear friend of the automaker, a certain Mr. Jerry Seinfeld, requested that his 1998 993 S Cabriolet be converted into a Speedster. The company happily complied with his request, and his car became the first and only 993 Speedster Conversion.

There have been other Porsche master builders who have done 993 Speedster Conversions for private collectors over the years, but the Gunther Werks Speedster is by far one of the most spectacular modern interpretations. This exquisite 993 Speedster is currently on sale through Prestige Imports, Miami. Exquisitely rare, the ’Je M’en Fous du Carbone’ Commission Speedster is one of only 25 produced worldwide, and its unique exterior carbon fiber finish makes it one of just three in existence.

  • The Gunther Werks 993 Speedster is available at Prestige Imports, Miami for $1,795,950
  • The fully exposed carbon fiber exoskeleton of the Speedster took more than 900 hours to put together.
  • The 993’s features a 4.0-liter engine which produces 435 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque.

The Speedster Packs In More Fun Than A GT3 RS

This Speedster’s body panels come with a herringbone weave pattern that took 900+ man hours to create. which explains its eye-watering price tag. Under the optional rear ducktail spoiler, you will find a Rothsport Racing-developed 4.0-liter flat-six which produces 435 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a Getrag G50 6-speed manual with custom gear ratios. Thanks to its lightweight carbon fiber exoskeleton, the Speedster weighs just 2,580 pounds. This gives it a better power-to-weight ratio than the current Porsche GT3 RS. Gunther Werks has reinforced the chassis of the Speedster along with rear bracing with rollover protection and stiffer sills, a wider race-spec front track, and anti-roll bars at both ends. The car’s suspension system is comprised of advanced DGR Active Coilovers with bespoke suspension arms with upgraded bushings & revised geometry.

The interior features carbon fiber bucket seats complemented by striking Rosso (red) leather upholstery, creating a striking contrast against the car’s exposed carbon fiber exterior. There are some cool milled aluminum bits scattered across the cabin to give it that extra cool finish including the ignition cover, door handles, and gear shifter. The Speedster’s design blends vintage and contemporary elements, to create harmony. A pair of striking Bi-LED headlights housed in aluminum completes the exterior fascia of the Speedster.

Jerry Seinfeld’s silver 993 Speedster was sold for an undisclosed sum a couple of years ago, and now spends its time being driven around Switzerland by its new owners. Similarly, The 993 Speedster gifted to Butzi Porsche now sits at the Porsche Museum and rarely makes public appearances. Since Porsche never made a 993 Speedster for general customers, the Gunther Werks Speedster might be the best opportunity to own one for yourself.

This extremely rare 993 Speedster by Gunther Werks can be yours for a whopping $1,795,950. At the same time, that may seem absurdly high, even for the 1% club. A quick scan of Classic.com of similar cars bearing the Gunther Works Remastered tag shows prices following a similar trajectory, upwards of a million dollars. Alternatively, you could buy a used 993 generation Cabriolet and ask Porsche politely to build you one through their Sonderwunsch program, as Luca Trazzi did with his custom 993 Speedster, unveiled at the recent Monterey Car Week. That will give a factory-exclusive model that will be made expressly to your exact specifications, but I suspect that very few people have the patience to wait three years.
