Roof Box On A Porsche GT3 RS: Sacrelious Or Plain Genius?
In what appears to be a Porsche purist's ultimate nightmare, we try to come up with the only possible reason for justifying this strange addition
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is probably the last car that comes to mind when you think about practicality. But the owner of this particular 992.1 example (as seen in the Reddit post below) based out of Dubai seems to think otherwise, as he or she has clearly tried to improve the usability of this track toy by mounting a Porsche-branded roof box, made by Swedish company, Thule. The GT3 RS does not have a frunk like other 911s, because additional aero elements have taken its place. So adding a roof box should help in maximizing space and the amount of stuff you can carry, however, it comes at a huge cost to the car’s capabilities and intended use. Regardless maybe, (and I’m just assuming here) this owner is stuck with a weird predicament, where this is their only daily driver. Let’s explore some of the pros (yes, there is one) and cons of mounting a roof rack on your GT3 RS.
An In-Depth Look At The Advanced Aerodynamics Of The Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Find out how Porsche leveraged the forces of nature and race-bred tech to create the ultimate track-weapon
Being the most capable 911 around a racetrack, the 992.1 911 GT3 RS is just a toned-down version of the 911 GT3 R endurance racing car. The aggressive bodywork isn’t just for show, but has a genuine functional purpose. Right from its design (that massive rear wing is just otherworldly for a street-legal production car) to delivering flat-out performance, thanks to its high-revving naturally aspirated flat-six, the 911 GT3 RS is an enthusiast’s dream that costs Ferrari money. Aerodynamics is the magic formula that transforms a fast sports car into a track-devouring monster. It’s all about manipulating the airflow around the vehicle to maximize performance and handling.
Godzilla Meets Its Match? Porsche 911 Turbo S Vs. Nissan GT-R NISMO
An AWD rivalry that goes back decades, here's how the final R35 GT-R fares against one of the quickest 911s ever made
Even before it first debuted back in 2007, the R35 Nissan GT-R had its sights set on the Porsche 911 Turbo, outgunning it on its home turf, i.e. the Nürburgring. While the rivalry between the two has been fierce for over a decade, Godzilla is bowing out after a 15-year reign. While production ends in the U.S. for the 2024 model year (2025 in Japan), enthusiasts can grab the final editions. The 2024 Nissan GT-R boasts a revised front fascia, grille, wings, and rear end designed to improve aerodynamics without sacrificing downforce. Nissan engineers meticulously crafted a new mesh grille for better cooling and lower drag. At the same time, the top-of-the-line Nismo version receives a more aggressive rear wing and additional aerodynamic elements. A new "Stealth Gray paint" job completes the Nismo package, marking an apt send-off for this JDM icon.
From 'Ring Champion To Endurance Glory: Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R Makes Winning Le Mans Debut
Find out Manthey's late-call and unorthodox strategy helped Porsche secure the win in the LM GT3 class
The 2024 Le Mans served up quite a spectacle in the brand new LM GT3 class, with Porsche’ #91 Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R taking the win. Piloted by Richard Lietz, Morris Schuring, and Yasser Shahin, the race-spec 911 GT3 R took the checkered flag, etching Porsche’s and the Nürburing-based tuner’s name into the history books as the first manufacturer to win Le Mans with a GT3 car.
The One Drivetrain Feature That The Boxster Cayman Pair DO Not Offer
Great to drive but a little short on grip? Find out why the entry-level Porsche sports car has never offered AWD
The Porsche 718 Boxster, alongside its hardtop sibling, the Cayman, has evolved into a performance powerhouse in the Porsche lineup over the past two decades. Even with the base 2.0-liter 300-horsepower turbo Boxer-four engine (which sounds similar to a Subaru Boxer four, in my opinion), the 718 not only offers performance that’s useable on a day-to-day basis but also has enough potential to carve corners with precision.

However, the Taycan’s significance goes beyond sales figures. It catalyzed Porsche’s electrification journey, paving the way for future electric models and demonstrating the brand’s commitment to a sustainable future. Porsche recently debuted the 2025 992.2 Carrera and the Carrera GTS models, with the latter sporting motorsport-derived hybrid technology. However, both forego the seven-speed manual gearbox option, at least for now. Even if you configure a pre-facelifted 992.1 GT3 and GT3 RS on Porsche’s website, you’d have no option but to choose the seven-speed PDK automatic gearbox. The only manual-equipped 911 Porsche currently available is the limited-edition 911 S/T, which debuted back in August 2023.
