Rare Gem With Remarkable Returns: 2019 Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport Comes Up For Sale Again

Find out why this limited-run track only 991.2 GT2 RS is a lucrative investement for serious Porsche collectors

Porsche unleashed its ultimate 991 at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport was the 991 generation’s swan song, a track-only monster stripped down to its racing essence. The Clubsport was the road-going GT2 RS on steroids, based on the 991.2. It took everything that made the standard car a legend – insane power, razor-sharp handling, and a hunger for speed – and amplified it to eleven. But unlike its road-legal sibling, the Clubsport was stripped of creature comforts and lavished with race-ready components, transforming it into a pure-bred track weapon. This particular 2019 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, chassis number 39 of a limited 200-unit run, now up for sale is about as close to a street-legal Le Mans prototype as you can get without needing a FIA license and a team of mechanics on retainer.

A 991.2 GT2 RS Clubsport With Heritage Touches

This specific Clubsport with just 138 miles on the clock, has a bit of an international flair. It started life in Hong Kong, rocking a glorious white and red 917 Salzburg livery – a fitting tribute to Porsche’s legendary racing heritage. The original owner apparently wasn’t afraid to stretch the car’s legs on a local track, which is both impressive and slightly terrifying. After its Hong Kong stint, the car found itself stateside in Los Angeles, where it likely did some glamorous media stuff (because, let’s face it, a car this insane deserves its own paparazzi). It comes with a treasure trove of goodies, including:

  • Spare parts

  • Original paperwork

  • Porsche Classic Technical Certificate from Hong Kong

Now, onto the juicy details. At the heart of this track-weapon lies a 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six that pushes out a mind-bending 700 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque. That power gets channeled to the rear wheels, through a lightning-fast seven-speed PDK transmission, flinging the Clubsport from a standstill to warp speed in a heartbeat. It can deliver maximum performance precisely where required, thanks to its optimized intercooler with redesigned supply and return air feed, as well as its race-optimized water spray system.

But raw power is only half the story. Porsche went all-in on weight reduction, slapping carbon fiber on everything from the roof to the doors (because race car). The Clubsport weighs 3,064 pounds which is significantly lighter than the street-legal GT2 RS’ 3,241 pounds. This dedication to lightness, combined with wind tunnel-honed aerodynamics featuring a massive rear wing and aggressive front flics, translates to insane downforce and grip. In fact, Porsche and Manthey-Racing set a new Nürburgring-Nordschleife record of 6 minutes 40.3 seconds back in 2018, lapping the 12.8-mile circuit in the Porsche GT2 RS MR.

The Clubsport’s chassis is pure, unadulterated engineering. Developed by Porsche’s engineering team in Weissach, the suspension features three-way adjustable shocks that can be fine-tuned for any track, ensuring the driver has complete control over this untamed beast. Safety wasn’t an afterthought, either. The Clubsport boasts a full safety cage, a fire suppression system, and top-of-the-line racing seats and harnesses.

Here’s Why The GT2 RS Clubsport Should Be On Your Radar

While you can’t exactly take this GT2 RS Clubsport to PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) or to the grocery store (unless your grocery store has a really good racetrack), it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a slice of Porsche’s motorsport history. So, if you have $650,890 to spend along with a serious need for speed, this 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is available at Porsche Colorado Springs.

Classic.com lists the average price for the GT2 RS Clubsport over a five-year duration at $448,061, and this very car previously swapped hands in 2021 for $354,345 and $495,000, indicating an upward trajectory. But still, the current $650k asking price for this particular example is still a lot lesser when compared to the even rarer reimagined Porsche 935 that also came out around the same time and now commands seven figures.
