The Porsche Cayenne is a name synonymous with luxury and sportiness and, perhaps less so, off-road prowess. But what if we told you there’s a Cayenne that can tackle sand dunes with the same aplomb it tackles Rodeo Drive? While this might look like any other Cayenne to the average Joe, to the eagle-eyed amongst you, you know that this one is special. This, my friends, is the 2010 Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia that’s come up for sale on Bring-a-Trailer, is a ridiculously rare (only 285 made!) off-road-ready beast that’ll have you conquering sand dunes and carving up canyons in equal measure.

What Makes The Transsyberia Collectible

First, some context on what the Transsyberia is. As part of the Type 957 Porsche Cayenne (the dot 2 facelift of the first generation Cayenne), the Transsyberia stands out among its more common siblings. Unlike many Cayennes of the time, the Transsyberia in my opinion is a collectible, joining the ranks of the 955 and 957 Turbo S models.

Here’s the deal: Back in 2007, Porsche kicked serious butt for those who doubted the Cayenne’s capability, in the Transsyberian Rally, a brutal off-road race stretching from Moscow, Russia to Mongolia. To celebrate, they unleashed the Transsyberia onto the world, a Cayenne GTS on steroids.

This particular Transsyberia is a California dream, finished in a sleek Meteor Gray Metallic (Only 31 examples of the 285 were finished in this color) with Crystal Silver Metallic accents. It’s got all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a Porsche. Black leather and Alcantara seats provide comfort on long drives, while a Bose sound system and navigation keep you entertained and on course. The heated seats are a welcome addition, especially in colder climates.

Under the hood, a naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8 pumps out 405 horsepower, a symphony delivered through a throaty sport exhaust. The Transsyberia’s off-road credentials are undeniable. It features reinforced underbody protection, steel skid plates, and a unique 4.1:1 final drive ratio for tackling challenging terrain. The Cayenne’s standard all-wheel-drive system, coupled with Porsche Traction Management (PTM), ensures confident handling in less-than-ideal conditions.

The seller mentions some cosmetic TLC needed on the bumpers and a repainted front fender. There have also been some repairs – the A/C blower motor, the PCM module, and the rear glass have all been replaced recently. The good news? The seller seems to have addressed these issues head-on, and there are no warning lights on the dash, according to the listing.

If you’re looking for a unique Porsche that can tackle both the urban jungle and the great outdoors, the Transsyberia offers a compelling combination of luxury, performance, and rarity. The only thing that puts me off is the higher mileage figure of 104,000 miles. Keep in mind that gen-1 Cayennes have increasingly become popular as project cars a used high-mileage example can easily be had for under $10,000 and even with some off-road mods, you’re still looking at a couple of grand more, or as much as your wallet allows.

So a current bid of $25,000, does make it seem pricey, but this is a limited production model from the factory of just 285 units, and its current $25k bid against the Cayenne Transsyberia’s average sale price of $43,867 over the past five years, keeps me interested. Just be prepared to shell out some dough for this rare gem, and maybe budget a little extra for some TLC down the line.
