At $174,000 for a pair, these are probably some of the most expensive spares currently listed on the web

I’ll be blunt: if you think Porsche parts are expensive; Bugatti’s headlight pricing will make you laugh or cry. A pair of used headlights for the ballistic Bugatti Chiron is currently being offered for 147,000 EUR ($174,000) on eBay in Germany. Yes, that’s roughly the price of a brand-new Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS (992.2). It’s absurd, but this is Bugatti we’re talking about, where absurdity is the norm. The headlights featured in the listing belong to a Super Sport 300+ Pur Sport. Bugatti’s LED units make Porsche’s iconic four-point design which has been around since the gen-1 Panamera, almost look quaint.

Why Bugatti Chiron Headlights Cost As Much As A 911 Carrera 4 GTS

Each unit delivers optimal illumination and integrates seamlessly into the Chiron’s aerodynamic design. They’re crafted from the same obsessive precision that defines every Bugatti component.

Bugatti Chiron Headlights Highlights:

  • Each unit consists of a quad-LED module setup, precision-engineered to deliver unparalleled brightness and clarity

  • They feature advanced adaptive lighting technology, capable of adjusting beam patterns in real-time based on speed, steering angle, and road conditions

  • This ensures that the driver always has the best possible visibility, whether cruising at low speeds or hurtling down the German autobahn at over 200 mph

  • Additionally, the headlights are encased in housing crafted from lightweight, heat-resistant materials, ensuring durability and performance under extreme conditions

But the question remains, are they really worth $87,000 each? For most people; probably not, unless you’re one of the lucky 500 Chiron owners who’ve already accepted that financial logic has no place in your life. Bugatti’s headlights are the supercar equivalent of jewelry beyond their technical capability and are also designed to make a statement, while Porsche’s are mere tools in contrast. This is the kind of distinction that defines hypercars isn’t it? This is why Bugatti owners don’t flinch at paying over $25,000 for an oil change or $40,000 for tires. For comparison, Porsche’s matrix LED headlights on the 911 cost about $4,000. They’re fantastic and a benchmark in the sports car world, but they don’t hold a candle literally or figuratively to the Chiron as I’ve highlighted in the points above.

The Chiron Legacy

Spearheaded by former Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer, the Chiron is a showcase of engineering excess that hit the scene in 2016. Its monstrous quad-turbo 8.0-liter W16 engine produces 1,479 horsepower, and its top speed is electronically capped at 261 mph. Both Porsche and Rimac now own a controlling stake in Bugatti, , and Mate Rimac, the mastermind behind the 1,800 horsepower all-electric Rimac Nevera, is reshaping the French brand’s future. As for the design, it was done by Achim Anscheidt and Sasha Selipanov, the California-based designer with Russian roots (You have to hear this guy’s story) who’s since founded his own brand, NILU27. It’s an ironic twist that he was someone, who once pushed Bugatti’s design language to the extreme, and is now focused on a completely different ethos with his track-only V12-powered creation.

The Rimac connection adds another layer to this narrative. Rimac’s electric hypercar has already set new benchmarks in performance, but under Mate Rimac’s leadership, Bugatti is set to evolve into a brand with a hybrid (maybe electric) future, as seen with the exquisite V-16 Tourbillion. The Chiron’s engineering legacy from its W16 engine to those ludicrous headlights is a bridge between old-school combustion glory and the cutting-edge world Rimac has planned for Bugatti.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, the Chiron is a monumental feat of engineering, and yes, its exclusivity is unmatched. But when you consider that a Rimac Nevera offers superior performance for a fraction of the maintenance cost (it is an EV after all), or that a Porsche 911 Carrera delivers 90% of the real-world driving thrill for a tiny fraction of the price, you start to question the Bugatti, which currently has an average price of $4 million according to classic.com. The headlights, as spectacular as they are, perfectly exemplify and drive this point home. They’re undeniably impressive, yes, but they’re also a glaring example of excess in a world increasingly concerned with sustainability and practicality. As for me, would I spend $174,000 on Bugatti Chiron headlights? Probably not. But I’d admire them from a safe, financially responsible distance.
