Beyond its sci-fi blue highlights, find out why this car cover represents excellent value for Taycan owners
by Khris Bharath on September 13, 2024, 18:00A car cover is a pretty generic item and is an absolute necessity if you park your ride out on and about for extended periods of time, in order to protect it from the elements. But it makes an even stronger case if the ride in question happens to be your brand-new 100-grand Porsche Taycan. You can go with something pretty generic from Amazon for under a hundred bucks. It does the usual stuff like protection accents for rain, snow, the wind, and sun and I found one that even has reflective stripes and a cut-out for a charge port. But if you want the novelty of a Porsche branded cover for your Taycan, you can get both a water-repellent outdoor cover and an indoor cover from the Porsche Tequipment accessories catalog for just $379. However, if you happen to have the luxury of an enclosed garage, Porsche has something pretty unique, to keep your Taycan under wraps, quite literally.
A Cover With Design Highlights That Make Your Taycan Look Cool Even While It’s Parked Up
Enter the “electric” Design indoor car cover, which has to be one of the coolest car covers that I’ve ever seen. As a Taycan owner, you’re already living in the future, because you get to experience the sci-fi noises when you hit the accelerator pedal. But why should the fun stop, when you’re back home? This cover with its futuristic printed-circuit board design curated by F.A. Porsche Design, helps you admire your ride in a new way, even while it’s parked up. According to Porsche, this cover is supposed to reflect the electrifying future of the sports car.
The unique print pattern on the roof and across the hood certainly conveys that and reminds me of the graphic pattern seen in the Keanu Reeves starter Matrix. Where the high color of the graphic in the movie was green, the highlights on this Taycan car cover are finished in electrifying blue. Other design highlights include Porsche’s iconic four-point LED headlights and a print of a full-width red light bar with the Porsche script at the rear. Moving the sides, the wheel design seems to take inspiration straight from the 2015 Porsche Mission E concept car and you have a prominent Taycan name printed in what is known as the Carrerra font.
Finished in a breathable, antistatic dirt-resistant material, and appears to offer a pretty snug fit. The only downside is that you can’t charge the cover while charging. It is available for the Taycan sedan, Taycan Cross Turismo, and Taycan Sport Turismo for both launch and pre-facelift models. Priced at $689, it may seem a bit pricey, especially when compared to some of the more affordable alternatives I mentioned earlier, but I’d argue that where other optional extras in the Taycan configurator cost 1000s, this one for under 700 bucks is a bargain because those pricey can’t compare with the one on the coolness to dollar ratio. Besides the Taycan, Porsche Tequipment offers some pretty unique covers for the 911 GT3 RS and the 718 RS Spyder.
