Before it can exist in the Metaverse, Zuck teamed up with West Coast Customs to build a custom stretch Cayenne Turbo GT for the real world
by Khris Bharath on October 7, 2024, 07:00From your average Joe on Pimp My Ride to Celebrity builds, I’ve seen a fair share of some truly outrageous creations from West Coast Customs over the past two decades. But this one is special. Why? Because it involves a Billionaire, yes, with a capital ’B’. But this is not just any Billionaire, but Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, yes the same dude who runs the likes of some of the biggest tech / social media companies on the planet in the form of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Zuckerberg along with his wife Pricilla Chan, posted some pictures of a stretched Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT and a Porsche 911 GT3, on the very platforms that Mark runs, indicating that he may be a Porsche guy.
Billionaire Porsche Enthusiast’s Perfect Two-Car Family Garage
When you’re a billionaire, you have a ’Money-No-Object’ kind of situation, where you’re not just able to buy the most expensive car out there, but actually, afford to buy the factory that builds the damn thing. But as you’ve read from the title, being a Billionaire has its perks. Whereas ordinary folks like us, even if you’ve got the money, may have to wait in line and cough up a hefty markup to snag something like a Cayenne Turbo GT, Zuck had a request that I’m not sure even Porsche’s Sonderwunsh (Special Wishes) Program may be able to pull off with ease. But with West Coast Customs, anything is possible and that is exactly how we’ve ended up with this Cayenne Turbo GT minivan.
While we don’t have the exact specifics, here’s my theory of how this project came to fruition. If you’ve been following Zuckerberg on social for a while now (how ironic), you’ll see that he now seems to be a lot more chilled out and laid back than ever before. My memory of him was more along the lines of a CEO in a gray Tee shirt, blue denim jeans, and short hair. Simple. These days though, he’s rocking longer hair, snazzy jewellery, and watches and have you seen those brand-new smart glasses collab between Ray-Ban and Meta? I mean this it seems is a more blingy side of Zuckerberg that we’ve never seen before.
Now the reason I mention this is because with this transformation, it looks like the billionaire CEO is out to play, and what better way to do that, than with a Porsche 911 GT3 with a manual? Now it is worth mentioning that the 911 is a big deal for Zuckerberg, considering he’s owned some pretty humble everyday cars like the Honda Fit, and Volkswagen Golf, with the exception of his Pagani Huayra. Now if a manual was what he was after, I’m surprised why he didn’t choose the 911 Sport Touring, which is the only 911 that you can still buy with a manual today, with the 992.1 GT3 being discontinued earlier this year.
But beyond the fun, Zuckerberg is also a father to three children, and while he might be happy with the sports car, his wife Pricilla, wanted something a bit more practical for the family, more specifically, a minivan. To make it perfect His & Hers, it appears that Mark Zuckerberg decided to pair his 911 GT3 with the Cayenne Turbo GT that has been stretched out. Now this car is not as long as the ones you see cruising down the Vegas strip, but it does have a considerably longer wheelbase than the standard car and a proper minivan-style sliding door, which should make installing a Porsche-brandedchild seat (why not?) easy.
Owing to the dark cabin, I couldn’t really see much from the photos or the video that Zuckerberg shared, but from what I could see, it appears as though you have sporty buckets in the second row as well. As for the rest of the car, it’s business as usual. If you’ve seen the latest Cayenne Turbo GT before, most of the things like the carbon roof, the coupe-like rear profile, and blacked-out wheels with carbon ceramic brakes courtesy of the yellow calipers, should all look familiar to you. It’s perfectly color-matched to Mark’s Crayon (Paint Code: M9A) 911 GT3 to make it a nice pair of Porsches for the Meta couple. Frankly, out of the two cars, dare I say that the 911 GT3 looks rather boring.
Now the Cayenne Turbo GT minivan is a model, that Zuckerberg thinks should be part of the Porsche lineup. Now, I’m not really sure how something like this would go down with the Porsche faithful, but then again; what do you do when you’re a Porsche enthusiast, and say, maybe a family of seven? Personally, I think it’s a bit pointless because what you’ve done here is take one of the most dynamically competent SUVs on sale today, we’re talking 650 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque from a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, (and around the Nürburgring:7:38.925) and make this near-200 mph SUV, well, less competent, if that makes sense. Maybe this bespoke build could clinch the record for the fastest van around the Nordschleife which in case you were wondering is a Ford Transit Supervan with a time of 8:45.12. On a final note, scrolling through the comments on Zuck’s Instagram post, I noticed that West Coast Customs thanked Mark for allowing them to be a part of history with this build, but also indicated that there’s more to come. So watch this space.
