Hybrid Showdown: 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Vs. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray

While both the Corvette and 911 now offer a hybrid variant, they have one fundamental noteworthy difference

Porsche recently introduced its first electrified 911 with the Carrera GTS as part of the facelifted 992.2 generation Porsche 911. It comes at a time when there are only a few two-door hybrid sports cars available in the market, and one of them is the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. Now, it is worth noting that neither of the two cars mentioned here are not plug-in hybrids and only feature very compact battery packs. This is why Porsche doesn’t refer to the new 911 Carrera GTS as an E-Hybrid (PHEVs in Porsche world) but instead calls it a T-Hybrid, which means Turbo Hybrid.

Now in the era of electrification, where automakers are trying to maximize performance while burning less fuel, the Corvette E-Ray and the 911 Carrera GTS represent the pinnacle of hybrid tech, however, they have a few fundamental differences. Where the Chevy’s system does more efficient by offering a pure EV mode, Porsche’s T-Hybrid is all about enhancing performance. So, if you’re in the market for a hybrid sports car, how do these two models stack up against each other? Let’s look at how the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray pit against each other.

Since both the 911 Carrera GTS and the Corvette E-Ray are positioned above their respective base variants, they offer many standard features, such as lightweight wheels, adaptive suspension, beefier braking systems, and a leather-wrapped interior. But it’s important to note that the Corvette E-Ray comes with a few truly noteworthy standard features, such as carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber flash badging, a plethora of driver-assist tech, including adaptive cruise control, and a power-adjustable steering wheel column. The Porsche, on the other hand, punches above the E-Ray with some unique features, such as rear-wheel steering, active aero flaps on the front bumper, Matrix LED headlights, and a beefier anti-roll stabilization system, all of which are fitted as standard.

Both sportscars here have a three-figure price point: $166,895 for the 911 GTS and $104,900 for the Corvette E-Ray. From that perspective, the Corvette offers better value, and to add to it the 911 Carrera GTS carries a premium since it is not locally assembled but is imported from Germany.

Going by the numbers from the table below, it appears that the Corvette E-Ray beats the 911, however, the 992.2 911 Carrera GTS introduces some exciting new hybrid technology. There’s a new 3.6-liter flat-six engine behind the rear axle, but instead of twin turbochargers as seen on the outgoing model, Porsche has fitted a single but bigger turbocharger, that is propelled by an e-motor to reduce turbo lag in the lower revs.

Additionally, the eight-speed PDK has an e-motor baked into it, which sends power directly to the engine. When combined, the hybrid powertrain cranks 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque. Porsche claims that the 2025 911 Carrera GTS should accelerate to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, but Porsche, like most German automakers, loves to understate its vehicles’ real-world performance.

On the Corvette, Chevrolet didn’t go the German engineering route and kept things sweet and simple. Right behind the seats, sits GM’s LT2 6.2-liter naturally aspirated small block V8 mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, that sends power exclusively to the rear wheels only. Chevrolet further managed to cram in an e-motor in the front axle, making this the first ever all-wheel drive Corvette in history. The electric motor and the V8 have combined 655 horsepower and 595 pound-feet of torque, enough to propel the E-Ray to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

Apart from performance, one of the major differences between the E-Ray and the GTS is the former’s ability to drive in fully electric mode at up to 45 mph. While it can only cover four miles in pure EV mode, the Chevy does allow you to creep out of your garage in the morning, without waking up your neighbors.
