Does Your Porsche 911 Have This SECRET Compartment?

Find out how this ingenious solution can help you maximize your Porsche 911's usable space

Porsche’s legendary 911 has always been the quintessential everyday sports car. Since its debut in the ’60s, it has effortlessly blended performance and practicality, proving that you don’t need to sacrifice thrills for everyday usability. Now in its eighth generation, the 992 911 continues this tradition, boasting even more power and refinement while remaining a surprisingly versatile daily driver.

But let’s face it, space has never been the 911’s strong suit. Sure, you can toss a couple of duffel bags in the frunk (that’s the front trunk), but packing groceries or luggage for your extended weekend getaway can feel like a game of Tetris. However, there’s always been a sense that Porsche could do more to maximize the available space, especially in this latest iteration.

Enter Fickst It!, a YouTube channel that’s unearthed a clever hack to increase the 911’s frunk capacity and create a hidden compartment for those essential tools and accessories that come with the car. With this ingenious solution, Dave who runs the channel, sets out to show how 911 owners could utilize the available frunk space, making it more functional and organized. Get ready to have your mind blown because this hack is so simple yet effective that you’ll wonder why Porsche didn’t think of it themselves.

Working with what you have

Okay, let’s talk about maximizing the frunk space in your Porsche 911. Installing a false floor is one trick that’s been making the rounds in the 911 community. This clever mod involves creating a raised platform in the frunk, essentially dividing it into two levels.

The beauty of a false floor is that it sits a few inches above the real floor and ends up creating a hidden storage area beneath it. To keep your frunk organized, you can stash away tools, emergency kits, or any other items you don’t need access to every day. The top level becomes your main cargo area, still offering plenty of room for your everyday essentials and running to the grocery store.

However, it’s not only about creating extra space; it’s also about organization. With a false floor, you can designate specific areas for different types of items, making it easier to find what you need when you need it. It’s a simple yet effective way to transform your 911’s frunk into a more functional and versatile storage space.

D.I.Y. your secret compartment

Ready to work on organizing your 911’s frunk? It’s easier than you might think! You need to visit a hardware store first to grab some cardboard, a fairly large piece of particle board, a carpet (’O Reilly Parts), a spray adhesive can, and some gorilla tape. This is only going to cost you a couple of dollars. Then, let your inner D.I.Y guru loose!

  • Begin by taking all the emergency kit and other equipment out of the frunk and crafting cardboard templates to get the perfect size and shape for your hidden compartment.

  • Use those templates to cut the particle board, wrap it in some plush carpet, and secure everything with spray adhesive and tape.

  • Give it a test fit in your frunk, tweak it if needed, and voila! You’ve got yourself a secret storage space for tools, snacks, or whatever else you want to keep out of sight.

It’s a game-changer for maximizing your 911’s storage space and keeping things organized on the go. If you want full details on the parts used and a visual description of how to work on this little DIY project, you can head to the video linked down below.

Now the space available to you really depends on what generation of the 911 you have. YouTuber Fickst It!, i.e. Dave, owns a 991 911 Carrera 2S, and according to him, you can also apply this trick to your 981 Cayman/Boxster and the 718 Cayman/Boxster (982) as well. However, note that the 991-gen 911 offers a slightly larger frunk capacity at 5.1 cubic feet, as opposed to the 4.6 cubic feet found with the recent 992-generation 911. So, if you’re planning to apply this hack to your brand-new 911, please note that while the partition may only separate your belongings, the space for cargo itself above the false floor may be a little cramped. On a final note, Dave adds that he uses a $10 17-gal Tote Storage bin from HomeDepot, that fits perfectly on top of the false floor, and comes in handy when you store wet items.
