Sitting somewhere between a scale model and the real thing, here is a Carrera RS that won't break the bank
by Khris Bharath on August 26, 2024, 16:00As a scale model car collector, I continue to yearn to buy a miniature version of some of my favorite rides. So when I saw this go-kart, I knew I had to investigate. It is built by Little Roadsters and designed to resemble a 1970s Porsche 911 cabriolet in the style of a 3.0 Carrera RS. There’s something undeniably charming about driving around in a scaled-down version of a legendary vehicle. It’s like stepping into a time machine but without the time travel.
A Scale-Down Porsche That Is Not Short On Style
From the Porsche logos to the faux exhaust pipes, the attention to detail on this go-kart is impeccable. This pint-sized Porsche homage is a fiberglass dream, rocking the same iconic lines and that unmistakable whale tail spoiler. It’s got "Carrera" graphics plastered on the sides, just in case your neighbors mistake it for a high-end lawnmower.
Other noteworthy features include:
-
Headlights
-
Rear drum brakes
-
Gold-color 8.0-inch steel Fuchs-style wheels
-
Side mirror
-
Dual black vinyl seats
-
Electric starter
Power comes from a 6.5 horsepower courtesy of a 200cc Buffalo single-cylinder engine, enough to get you ripping around the cul-de-sac at breakneck speeds (okay, maybe not breakneck, but definitely faster than a jog). It is mated to a single forward and reverse-speed transmission. Underneath that fiberglass skin sits a tubular steel frame for maximum sturdiness, and coilover suspension should keep things smooth over those inevitable driveway bumps. The rear drum brakes might not be as advanced as the modern systems found in full-sized Porsches, but they should be more than sufficient for a go-kart, and they add to its vintage charm.
Hop inside and you’ll find a surprisingly well-appointed cockpit. Dual black vinyl seats with (faux, of course) stitching wouldn’t look out of place in a real Porsche, and the whole thing is finished off with a three-spoke steering wheel with a Cougar-branded center hub and Porsche’s signature five-gauge instrument binnacle. There’s even a floor-mounted shifter and a handbrake for that authentic race car feel.
This Carrera RS-style go-kart is now being offered on Bring-A-Trailer at no reserve in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on a bill of sale, with the current bid sitting at $6,000. To give you some context, if you want the real thing, you’re looking at an average price of $2.3 million for a Porsche 911 Carrera RS - 3.0 Liter. Now look, this definitely isn’t going to be a practical purchase. But for the die-hard Porsche fan with a hefty disposable income, it’s the ultimate garage (or, more realistically, driveway) toy. It’s a conversation starter, a rolling tribute to a legend, and maybe, just maybe, the coolest way to introduce your kid to the wonderful world of driving. Just don’t expect them to outrun the ice cream truck.
