The 2021 Mission R is already pretty spectacular to look at, but this rendering imagines the all-electric concept as an underground machine
by Khris Bharath on September 11, 2024, 13:30Modern digital tools and computing power, give pretty much anybody (with some level of skill of course) the ability to manipulate images like never before. A.I. has only taken that narrative further, with endless ways to come up with silly stuff. But it can also be put to good use as we have here with this rendering based on the already stunning 2021 Mission R concept car, this time sans the wing. But here’s why I think this one is a bit more special when compared to previous Mission R renderings that cropped up online.
Porsche Mission R Concept Reimagined As A Wingless Wonder
Now for those unfamiliar, the 2021 Mission R concept is a showcase of Porsche’s EV aspirations. It features a dual-motor setup with 1,073 horsepower and several noteworthy innovations like the E-Core platform, also seen on the Porsche Mission X concept, will be vital to the weight distribution of batteries in a way that it mimics a traditional gas-powered sports car. This tech is set to feature on the upcoming all-electric 983 Boxster.
But beyond the technical aspects, the Mission R is also a showcase of Porsche’s future design direction. With a motorsports livery and that aggressive wing, the exterior styling of the Mission R concept in the red and white colorway is akin to a purpose-built Porsche racecar, than a road-going sports car. Brad Build’s (a.k.a Brad Brammer) rendering takes a different approach devoid of those previously mentioned exterior gremlins. But without these embellishments, you get to truly appreciate the lines of the Mission R’s body.
Instead of making the render look like a plain-jane production model, Brad goes a step further, giving it more of an after-market, underground aesthetic. Highlights include what looks like a pinkish-white hue that reflects different colors based on the angle you’re viewing the car from, some bright yellow accents on the front bumper, and of course, multi-spoke BUC-M Rotiform wheels, wrapped in low-profile R888R Toyo tires. I wish he could have throw-in some under glow neon lights for good measure and swapped out the background for something a bit more appropriate. My favorite angle by far has got to be the rear 3/4. Without the wing, your attention shifts toward the trick aero bits and the aggressive rear diffuser. The cut-out in the rear bumper shows off how wide those rear tires really are.
This is something that we’ve also seen on the recently unveiled Lamborghini Temerario. It remains to be seen if Porsche will build a production version of the Mission R which appears to have an impressively small footprint. The Mission R’s 170-inch length is 7.0 inches shorter than a modern-day 911 and looks like the ideal length of a compact 911, a car that Porsche design boss Micheal Mauer would like to see in the future. But for now, all eyes are on the upcoming all-electric Porsche 983 set to debut sometime in 2025.
