2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T: The Back To Basics 992.2 For Purists

Now available exclusively as a manual, and a cabriolet as for the first time, find out how Porsche continues to refine its entry-level light-weight Touring model

Hot on the heels of the 992.2 GT3, Porsche has now unveiled the 2025 911 Carrera T, a lightweight and dynamic driver’s machine built for pure on-road thrills. The "T" designation stands for Touring, harkening back to the homologation of the 1968 911 T. Let’s be honest, the 911 lineup can feel a bit bloated at times. But the Carrera T cuts through the confusion like a perfectly aimed heel-toe downshift. It slots right between the base Carrera and the upcoming Carrera S, offering a taste of that GT3 spirit without the stratospheric price tag, and for the first time, you can also have the ’T’, as a Cabriolet.

Stick Shift Salvation

With the 992.2 Touring, gone is the PDK automatic of previous T models. This time around, Porsche throws it back to the golden age of sports cars with a mandatory six-speed manual transmission. The gearbox utilizes the first six ratios from the prior 992.1 Carrera’s seven-speed unit, ensuring a familiar yet engaging experience.

For those who truly appreciate the finer details, a walnut shift knob adds a touch of nostalgia harkening back to the legendary 917 Le Mans racer from the 1970s and the more recent 2004 Porsche Carrera GT. The throws should be satisfyingly short, and the auto-blip on downshifts will be a godsend for those who haven’t quite mastered the rev-match dance.

Under the hood sits a familiar twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six from the base 911 Carrera. While torque remains the same at 331 pound-feet, horsepower gets a bump to 388 from 379, translating to a 0-60 mph sprint of 4.3 seconds for the coupe and 4.5 seconds for the cabriolet. But the real magic lies in weight reduction.

The Carrera T sheds pounds through a combination of lightweight glass, minimal insulation and sound deadening, and of course, the absence of the automatic transmission. Opt for the carbon-fiber bucket seats, and you can shave off even more weight, bringing the curb weight down to a feathery 3,258 pounds, making it 88 pounds lighter than a standard Carrera. For some context, the lightest 911 from the 992.1 series is the 911 S/T at 3,056 pounds.

Handling Honed to Perfection

The weight loss isn’t just about bragging rights. It translates into a sharper, more agile driving experience. Porsche throws a whole arsenal of upgrades at the Carrera T, including:

  • Standard rear-axle steering

  • Revised anti-roll bars

  • Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM)

  • Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus

  • Staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels

  • 350 mm front brakes with six-piston calipers

The Carrera T isn’t shy about announcing its presence. Exclusive Vanadium Grey Metallic accents adorn the side mirrors, two-tone wheels, and badges, while a black stainless steel sports exhaust and a menacing GTS front spoiler complete the aggressive look. The "Legends" color scheme offers some truly eye-catching options like Shade Green Metallic and Crayon, while the "Dreams" palette brings the fire with Guards Red and Gentian Blue Metallic.

The interior follows the same philosophy as the exterior; function over form. Black sport seats with contrasting stitching are standard, with an optional tartan fabric pattern exclusive to the T. A Heated GT sports steering wheel comes standard, with a Race-Tex option for those who truly want to feel the connection to the road. The pièce de résistance is undoubtedly the open-pore walnut laminated wood gear knob, a constant reminder of the car’s manual-transmission soul.
