A modern take on a icon, here's how this rendering of this roofless pony car epitomizes style and substance
A classic Mustang is not a car that you typically associate with off-roading
But that's exactly what the Milan-based design studio Borromeo de Silva envisioned with the STL-1 concept with these stunning renderings
Based upon the '68 Fastback, the idea first came about when one of the Studio's founders did a Trans-American road trip back in 2008
The hand-built roll cage uses aerospace-grade materials and the entire shell uses 1005 automotive-grade steel for extra strength
You may have noticed that the STL-1 doesn't have a roof and that is by design
This Mustang resto-mod features a set of custom LED tail-lights, reminiscent of the original
The car also sits higher off the ground, comes with heavy-duty suspension and the bespoke wheels are wrapped in all-terrain rubber
Power comes from a highly upgraded 5.0-liter Road Runner V8 engine from a 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 that was rated for 444 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque
Step inside and you have just the bare essentials. A set of racing bucket seats and an all-digital instrument panel
But its not all bare bones and you do have the option of a canvas roof for some protection from the elements
This is just a concept for now, but a prototype is on the horizon and if there's enough interest, a prototype could be built
