Despite ditching the 296 hp P300 engine, the 2024 Evoque remains at the forefront of the compact luxury SUV segment, combining classic British elegance with excellent off-road capabilities, a plush interior, and newly updated tech
by Sourav Banik on January 22, 2024, 07:51With a starting MSRP of $49,900, the 2024 Range Rover Evoque is the second cheapest Land Rover model after the $48,900 Discovery Sport, both being significant profit earners for the British luxury marque. From a customer’s perspective, the Range Rover Evoque is the cheapest Range Rover you can buy, and the Range Rover lineup speaks nothing but finesse!
The Evoque competes within the luxury crossover sector, battling the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, and Mercedes-Benz GLA - fierce competition, indeed. Despite the aggressive competition, though, the Evoque continues to stay competitive and maintain its place in the market thanks to its British refinement, classy design, minimalist luxury, and, of course, let’s not forget its outdoorsy capabilities - something the rivals are yet to match.
For the 2024 update, the big change is that Land Rover opts to axe the mild-hybrid unit from the Evoque and gives it a restyled grille and headlamps alongside a larger touchscreen and three new exterior colors: Arroios Grey, Tribeca Blue, and Corinthian Bronze. Do these new features justify the upgrade? Let’s take a look.
- Sufficient power for daily driving and occasional touring
- Premium driving experience with modern underpinning features
- The 2024 Range Rover Evoque presents top-notch luxury and comfort
- Elevate your luxury through an advanced air purification system
- Great functionality with the larger touchscreen and modern infotainment features
- How does the 2024 Evoque compete with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA?
Sufficient power for daily driving and occasional touring
For 2024, the Ranger Rover Evoque keeps the powertrain lineup simple with just one engine option. Under the hood, you get the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine cranking out 246 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, and peak torque of 269 pound-feet, which arrives as early as 1,300 rpm, meaning the lower range is quite punchy and takes less time to accelerate.
With this output from the powerplant, the Evoque proves to be a great daily driver and occasional touring SUV. It takes around 7.1 seconds for the 60 mph run before going on to a quarter-mile within 15.5 seconds, followed by a top speed of 143 mph, offering adequate pep for daily driving.
Despite having a small 2.0-liter turbo-four, the Evoque is mediocre in efficiency. It only returns 20, 27, and 22 miles in the city, on highways, and combined with a 17.7-gallon tank, enabling it to last up to 477.9 miles.
With just a single engine to choose from, we miss the outgoing P300 296-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four mild-hybrid engine from the 2023 model, which made the Evoque more powerful by 50 horsepower and half a second faster than the P250 to 60 mph.

Premium driving experience with modern underpinning features
While some buyers may complain the Range Rover Evoque can’t match the power and acceleration of its rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3, the Evoque presents you the ability to take this luxury SUV into light off-roading and muddy trails, and it won’t even mind.
Both trims have a standard all-wheel-drive system with a 4.544 axle ratio, meaning power is efficiently transferred to the wheels – another reason for the lower efficiency. However, it helps provide extra grip on loose surfaces. The Evoque includes strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, both equipped with coil springs to reduce vibrations and add extra strength.
The suspension is equipped with adaptive dampers collaborating with the standard Terrain Response 2 system, catering you with drive modes such as General Driving, Rock Crawl, Sand, Muds & Ruts, and Grass, Gravel, and Snow to let you choose tailored suspension/damping settings to conquer most terrains. It also features All-Terrain Progress Control, a low-speed cruise control, which is useful when off-roading.
Beyond these, the Evoque lets you equip a $1,050 Dynamic Handling Pack, adding Configurable Dynamics to provide you the independence to select among various gearbox steering, suspension, and pedal responses to add a personalized driving experience. Alongside this comes Land Rover’s famous Adaptive Dynamics feature, presenting you with advanced adaptive dampers that electronically adjust up to 100 per second to optimize handling and overall ride quality.
Speaking of its abilities, the Evoque offers up to 8.3 inches of maximum ground clearance and water wading up to 20.86 inches, giving you more ground clearance than the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The 2024 Range Rover Evoque presents top-notch luxury and comfort
As we’ve seen, the Range Rover Evoque exhibits impressive off-road capabilities compared to the competition and an immaculate exterior design. Likewise, if you’re here for comfort, this luxury crossover continues to impress with its premium cabin, providing tough competition to the X1 and GLA.
Enter inside, and the Evoque "evokes" your senses with its lavish cabin, melding a minimalistic design with simple yet effective arrangements. The dashboard design is minimalistic, with a 45-degree slanting display at the center housing most controls, with thin AC vents on top. It’s upholstered with soft-touch materials to add a plush touch and reduce the noise and vibration levels. You get three interior trims to choose from: light or dark anodized touches or Shadow Grey Ash veneer.
There’s enough seating for five, like most luxury crossovers, and both rows give you sufficient room. The cockpit brings a heated steering wheel with two power-adjustable and heated front bucket seats, but no ventilated seats. Additionally, you’ll need to opt for the $980 Cold Climate package if you need heated rear seats.
The rear offers 21.6 cubic feet of storage space, enough room for five to six bags. If you need more space occasionally, the interior can offer a maximum of 62 cubic feet behind the first row.
Elevate your luxury through an advanced air purification system
Range Rovers is famous for its cutting-edge technology for pampering passengers. Like this trend, the Evoque raises its luxury status by providing cleaner air once you enter the vehicle. For the 2024 Range Rover Evoque, the carmaker adds its sophisticated Cabin Air Purification system, which is available for the SUV as part of the optional Comfort Package.
This air purifier uses Panasonic-derived nanoeTM X technology to filter pathogens, bacteria, and allergens. The air purifier uses a PM2.5 Filtration and CO2 Management system to monitor the amount of carbon dioxide in the cabin and provide passengers with more oxygen.
On top of this, there is an Air Quality Index feature for displaying the air quality of your surroundings, which will be useful in some areas of the US. All these features can be accessed via a Purify button on the Air Quality Page on the touchscreen.
Great functionality with the larger touchscreen and modern infotainment features
The infotainment system also receives an upgrade. The cockpit now provides two large displays: a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster on the left and a new 11.4-inch curved glass touchscreen, both running on the latest iteration of the Pivi Pro interface.
Since most controls can be accessed via the touchscreen, the carmaker tweaked the interface so you can use 80 percent of the functions within two taps on the home screen, making the controls highly user-friendly.
The infotainment system includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging in the new storage areas on the center console. The system also adds Amazon Alexa assistant and a Wi-Fi hotspot via e-SIM technology for easy access.
A standard Meridian sound system provides a premium audio experience, but an optional $450 14-speaker Meridian Surround set is available for an audio upgrade.
How does the 2024 Evoque compete with the BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA?
Competing in the luxury crossover SUV segment, the Evoque faces up against the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Audi Q3, all of which are established names. Starting with price, the 2024 Audi Q3 starts at $37,000, making it the cheapest in the segment, with the X1 following with $40,500 starting MSRP and the Mercedes-Benz GLA attaching a $37,500 sticker. In comparison, the 2024 Evoque starts at $49,900, which is more expensive than the others by quite a margin.
Regarding power, the Q3 sports a 2.0-liter turbo-four with two tunes: 184 horsepower in the lower mode and 228 horsepower in the higher, followed by the X1 featuring either a 241 or 313-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo-four, with the latter hitting 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. The GLA gets power from a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with two tunings: a 221-horsepower variant and a 302-horsepower engine in the AMG 35, clocking 60 within 5.2 seconds. Given the price, the Evoque certainly doesn’t stand out in terms of performance, with just 246 horsepower and a 7.1 second 0-60 time.
From an interior perspective, all of the luxury SUVs listed feature a modern and spacious interior filled with tech, but the Evoque’s 11.4-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch cluster are the largest in the segment. Safety-wise, they all include modern driver assist features with semi-autonomous driving technologies via lane functions, emergency braking functions, and adaptive cruise control.
The Evoque gains an edge in the practicality section, topping its rivals with 50.5 cubic feet of total space, but the standard cargo capacity is slightly lesser than the Q3 and X1.

These virtual buttons provide immediate access to frequently used items, including individual temperature controls for the front occupants, cameras, navigation and audio volume.
At the beginning of every journey, drivers are presented with a Pre-Drive panel for fast access to commonly used features, such as window demisters and heated seats. Once on the move, it disappears to reveal the familiar three-panel home screen that can be customised with trademark Pivi Pro intelligence and flexibility.
The next-generation infotainment was the subject of extensive testing and development, both digitally and physically with human testers, to reduce task and interaction time and deliver the most user-friendly experience possible. Approximately 80 per cent of tasks can be performed within two taps of the home screen.
Pivi Pro supports effortless smartphone connectivity with Wireless Apple CarPlay™. Wireless Android Auto® is also supported, while Wireless Device Charging – from a new stowage area in the centre console – provides immediate fast charging and reduces the need for wires.
New Range Rover Evoque is also Wi-Fi Enabled with a Data Plan, ensuring occupants remain entertained and connected. Pivi Pro features twin embedded eSIM technology and cloud-based architecture, meaning it provides full access to a range of online apps – including Spotify and Deezer – integrated within the infotainment system.
Amazon Alexa brings a new level of convenience, providing the ability to control various settings and features using natural voice commands while reducing the potential for distraction. Alexa is embedded in Pivi Pro and can simply be activated by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Alexa button on the touchscreen.

Superior refinement
Customary Range Rover refinement is provided by advanced technologies that promote comfort and wellbeing, in addition to a comprehensive range of curated options packs.
New Range Rover Evoque aims to provide the healthiest cabin environment possible, with one of the most sophisticated interior air quality technologies in its class. Cabin Air Purification Plus is available for the first time on Evoque and an enhancement on the previous system.
Available as part of the optional Comfort Pack, or standard on Autobiography, it features PM2.5 Filtration and CO2 Management which helps to promote wellbeing for the whole family, as well as heighten alertness for the driver by monitoring and controlling CO2 levels inside the cabin. It is activated by pressing the Purify button on the Air Quality page within Pivi Pro and works to reduce the level of allergens or particulates inside the vehicle.
It uses nanoeTM X technology to combat pathogens and help significantly reduce odours, bacteria and allergens, while the Air Quality Index (AQI) app technology allows clients to monitor outside air quality at their location and their destination on screen.
Enhanced visibility at night is provided by new Pixel LED Headlights with Signature Daytime Running Lights (DRLs)1. Standard on Dynamic HSE and Autobiography, the new system features three times as many LEDs as the previous Matrix LED headlights. Each headlight features four pixel modules, containing 67 precisely controlled LEDs. They accurately adapt to the road conditions ahead to provide the optimum forward beam.
Dynamic Bend Lighting uses speed and steering data to respond to the road ahead and illuminate dark corners and verges, while the high beam range can focus light almost half a kilometre in front, for optimum visibility.
Able to cast shadows around four oncoming objects and avoid dazzling, Adaptive Driving Beam automatically adapts to vehicle speed, casting a wide beam at low speeds and a more intense, longer beam above 70km/h (43mph).
Electrified performance
New Range Rover Evoque continues to offer a range of plug-in electric hybrid and mild hybrid electric power, delivering fuel-efficiencies and performance. This includes the advanced P300e plug-in electric hybrid, available alongside a range of Ingenium petrol and diesel engines which all feature the latest Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology to boost efficiency and responses.
The P300e electric hybrid offers clients the best of all worlds, enabling Range Rover Evoque drivers to complete their average daily journeys with zero tailpipe emissions, thanks to an electric-only range of up to 62km (39 miles) from its 14.9kWh battery. The electric hybrid powertrain combines an efficient three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with an 80kW electric motor, providing a total power output of 309PS, 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds (0-60mph in 6.1 seconds). Updated battery chemistry offers an improved real-world driving experience, with an expected real-world electric range of up to 48km (30 miles). On longer journeys, this means a total real-world range of up to 651km (404 miles) with CO2 emissions from 31g/km.
Rapid DC charging is standard on the Evoque P300e, ensuring swift charges away from home in as little as 30 minutes, meaning the next electric-only drive is only a short charge away. Using a 7kW home charger, 0-100% charge can be completed in around two hours.
Advanced mild-hybrid electric (MHEV) petrols and diesels complete the line-up. The technology enhances efficiency and responsiveness by using a Belt integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) to harvest energy that is normally lost under braking and deceleration. It is stored in a 48-volt lithium-ion battery beneath the loadspace and is redeployed when accelerating, delivering a more refined operation of the fuel-saving start-stop system.
Trademark Range Rover engagement and composure on all terrains is provided by advanced chassis technologies.
Adaptive Dynamics – where fitted – ensures suspension stiffness is optimised for the driving conditions, improving ride comfort and handling. There’s even a specific calibration for off road driving, while altering driving parameters via the Configurable Dynamics system delivers exceptional performance and agility on-road.
Supreme all-terrain breadth of capability is guaranteed by the intelligent torque on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system, providing the optimum torque distribution to suit the conditions, whether driving dynamically on the road or pulling away from a standstill on slippery surfaces.
Terrain Response 2® is accessible through Pivi Pro and allows the driver to adjust vehicle settings to suit the driving environment, with a choice of Eco, Comfort, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Dynamic and Automatic mode. Each alters the calibration of the engine, transmission, all-wheel drive system, suspension and stability control systems for optimum traction and composure.
The New Range Rover Evoque is priced from £40,080 in the UK.
